There are a few threads on here on how to do this your self. I have done a 66-2 and a 64-5. Start with find sandpaper like 600 grit emery cloth and work your way to the 900 and then something in the range of 1100. Then you can start up with the Mothers Mag Polish or I have even used jeweler's rogue to make the surface look like it is chrome or nickel. Kyle

+1 on this being a DIY job. This was one of the sandblasted ones and it had rust and pitting all over. A couple evenings work and...

The 66s and such that started out smooth are even easier.

But... NEVER USE ANY POWER TOOL... this is by hand only. Its a zen thing.

$135 bucks? maybe I should start a business.

Flitz and an old sock works fine. It gives me a task while sitting here watching the boob tube.
I think any abrasives like 0000 steel wool should be used very carefully.
It could be too aggressive and the residue must be cleaned from the internal action, since it would cause rust problems.
Happy polishing.

i only take wet and dry 800 grit then 1000 grit with gun oil on the paper to scratches. if no scratches on gun surface then only mothers mag polish. then flitz for a finishing polish then gun wax.

I played around with polishing a couple of guns. Great to start with an old beater. This was a armored car turn in gun after years of service and was pretty beat up. Don't get in a hurry or take any short steps. Work your way down until your using 2000 wet and dry and then polish with Rouge until your happy with it.

I saw his work on a 4" Model 66. It looked like it was chrome plated. Very nice work.

What old 0311 said +1. I bought a nice highly polished model 681 from Frank Cape. He's seems to be a good guy to deal with. The revolver was just as he described. Shipping was fast. If you choose to have the work done as opposed to doing it yourself, I think Frank will do a good job for you. Just my$.02.

I just polished my 629-2 with some mother's mag and alum paste (hand polish). I took the cylinder out and grip off, in about 1 hour I got a nice shine. Mothers seems to be pretty good stuff.

Did not even begin to take off my stamp, if anything it made the logo more prominent.

I'll probably hit 2 or 3 more times in the near future to get even better finish on the gun.
