Default Orange Co. Sheriffs' Dept. CA Commemerative

I finally had time to take some decent photos of this commemerative I picked-up a few weeks ago. This is a Nickel plated model 29-3 that serial #'s to around 1984.

It commemerates the first lawman killed in the line of duty (undersheriff Robert Squirres) in Orange Co., CA in 1912 at Tomato Springs.

From what I could piece together, these were sold in the mid-eighties through the Orange Co. Sheriffs' Dept Range store. I have no idea how many exist (this is #169) or who did the work. OCSD was carrying the model 15 combat masterpiece during this time, so S&W may have done the work. As you can see in the pics, S&W roll marked all the usual info. on only one side of the barrel, leaving the other clean for engraving.

Beautiful commemorative model, interesting history in a nice case. Any chance of seeing a photo of the top lid of the case? Thanks for showing her off. Bob

Here you go. I didn't get the key. But I'm sure I could find one that will fit. I was hoping it would be a cuff key, but it's not.

Nice gun unfortunately now all we have to celebrate is the raping of our rights by a Los Angeles biased anti gun sheriff. One who has decided that only sheriff training is good enough for a CCW and only if you carry diamonds or something. Your staying alive is not her concern. Keeping you unarmed is....

Good afternoon-

I have Number 249 of 250 of this commemorative issue. It was done by the "Orange County Sheriff's Advisory Council"/"Sponsors of Project 999". I purchased mine on August 21, 1985 for the going rate of $750.00. The guns were processed through Deputy Larry Harris, Armorer of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department. I have a recollection that this commemorative was initially coordinated and funded by Georgia Frontieri who owned the then Los Angeles Rams.

The gun came with the badge and medallion in the case as you pictured. It also came with a matching numbered belt buckle.

My S/N placed the my gun in late 1984 to early 1985.

Do you have the literature that came with the gun? If not, I can make you a copy and mail it to you if you would like. Unfortunately, I do not have scan capability, nor a color copier, so we are talking black and white.

Thumbs up

I wonder who did the grips for this model? Great grain in the wood.

Wouldn't it be a trick to hang onto if it were a "shooting" issued revolver!

My grips are pencil numbered 75 on the inside. The detail in the medallion is awesome.

Radio Code 999 - Officer needs help, any units respond. Emergency!

Project 999 - assists peace officers injured in the line of duty and the families of peace officers killed in the line of duty.
