Picked up a New to me S&W today.
Hello all! I just got back from my LGS with a new toy. It is a 586 No-dash, pre-lock, case hardened hammer and trigger. 6" bbl with perfect condition stock S&W square butt wood grips. I paid $ 520 for this and was wondering how I did. Overall condition is I'd say around 90-95% with a very slight turn line and minor bluing worn off the muzzle from holstering.

Very nice. I really like the 586. It's the only L-frame on my "want" list. I sold the others off...

Another nice Smitty adopted....Makes me wonder why people let go of such nice guns....
Goes good with your 29 Classic!
But now you still have 3 more frame sizes to get... I only have 2 more to complete my one of each frame size collection! (but we both know I probably won't stop at just ONE of each! LOL!)

Just gotta find a nice set of Hogue (sp) rubber finger grips for her and she will match the 29. LOL! minus the scope of course. I am accualy thinking about taking the scope off my 29 and putting the iron sight back on....... any thoughts?

I say DO IT!
If you want a straight up hunting pistol, get a 460 or 500 and scope that.... Not that a .44 is unworthy of scope mind you.
I still have plans of trying fiberoptic sights on my .44. I think that will be just the ticket...

My preference on handguns is to favor portability and go with iron, when I feel a need for a scope I also add a buttstock and several inches of barrel.

Beeuuuutiful gun. I have a 586 and love that thing to death. It has the nicest double action pull I've ever owned. Sweet to look at too. Good job.

Not a big deal, but 586 no dash and -1 were subject to a recall. If your gun does not have an "M" on the inside of the yoke the issue was not corrected. S&W will pay shipping and they replace the hammer nose and the firing pin bushing and mark it with the "M". A lot of guys don't care, but there can be issues with some primers.
By the way -- great gun. Congratulations!

I love the double action pull aswell. My 29 classic and this 586 both break like glass. I have to say that I have yet to find another gun maker out there that has an as nice or nicer pull or break than an S&W. My 586 isnt as nice as my 29 classic but i think it just needs the cover removed and a few drops of oil put on it to bring it back. thats what I did to my 29 and my god what a difference. I also have a Taurus .22 mag 8 shot double action and compared to my smitty's the Taurus feels like the trigger pull mechanisms are made of sand paper. lol!

Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!! I just checked and there is an "M" stamped between the S/N and the Model number on the frame, so I take it that the recall was performed. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.

IMHO; you did fine on the price. I have $550 into my recent horse-traded-for 686 and I thought that was a good deal. So $520 for a fine 586 in that condition is good - especially around here lately.
