Anyone use a Simply Rugged holster

I need to get some leather for my N frames (4" and 6") and I am leaning towards this holster maker. I am curious if anyone has purchased one and how you feel about it.

I have the SD pancake and really like it for the most part when It carries a chopped barrel 1917.
One thing I've noticed is if I carry something with an adjustable rear sight, the blade rubs into the leather whereas the M&P sights on the 1917 presents no problem.

yes, i have a pancake for my 4 in. 629: very heavy leather which holds the gun in place and the price is right.

I think I like them from the pictures, but the only negative and I am not sure it is a negative is that it seems like there is a lot of extra leather on the sides. That's the one thing I am not sure about. I know a pancake has to spread out to get it to hug your waist, just seems like a lot of leather from the pictures

I have a George Lawrence style #120 I purchased from Rob. I'd waited for many years before I finally got my Model 27-2 with a 5" barrel (Thank you Skeeter).

I had the pleasure of meeting Rob and his lovely wife Jan last year at a weekend shoot. Hard working, down to earth and down right big hearted as well.

I have more pride in my Simply Rugged holster than any of my Milt Sparks or Mitch Rosen's. It's what it says it is 'Simply Rugged'. I proudly display it and enjoy telling people..a friend of mine made this.

If you see a holster you like on Rob's site? Don't hesitate to buy it, you won't regret it.

I have a revolver, a 3" Ruger SP101, that I keep intending to sell/trade off as one I don't "need". I have not posted it in the classifieds because I like its Simply Rugged HOLSTER too much to let the gun go!

My 2.5" M66 has a Lobo snap loop...I keep carrying the Ruger instead of the M66 because I like the holster that much better!

I have a SR Pancake fo rmy 3" 24-3, which I carry when in the field often doing other hunting, especially when Prairie Dog hunting and loaded with shot loads fo rattle snakes. What I like is the higher enclosure, which protects the gun, and you don't need any snap's & straps to hold it in. It rides up high enough it is comfortable and you almost forget you have it on. Keep in mind this is a field carry holstrer, not a fast draw or Self Defense quick access holster. For SD, carry, I like Lobo gun leather.

My 29-2 4 inch rides in a simply rugged range holster. I can absolutely recommend them: perfect fit, excellent function. These are high quality holsters, and Rob is wonderful to deal with. He is currently making a holster and belt combination for my new to me Colt 1911. I'm confident it will be another fine example of his leather craft.

I have the SR Silverdollar holster for my J-frame and other snubs. In my opinion it is a really good belt holster and that's how I use it most of the time.
I also have the IWB straps for it, and it works ok in that role. Its best application though is one of a belt holster.

I have three, a loaded pancake for my 329 PD, a silver dollar pancake for a 1-7/8" J-Frame, and a sourdough pancake for a 2-1/2" L-frame. I like them all.

I have two pancake style holsters. One for my J frame 442 when I wear it on my hip instead of pocket and one for my 696. Both are extremely comfortable and ride, using the bottom slots, high enough that they are concealed wearing a long shirt. Both hold the gun securely and the owner, Rob, was very responsive to email and couldn't have been friendlier. You can't go wrong with a Simply Rugged Holster

I agree. I like the SR Sourdough Pancake Crossdraw for my 4 inch N frames. They are primarily field carry revolvers, that are occasionally carried for SD in the winter months. A 4 or 6 inch N frame will most likely be used in such a manner. The SR Sourdough Pancake is an EXCELLENT holster for that purpose.......

I just received the Sourdough Pancake 3 slot today . I believe the original time frame was 3-4 weeks , but it came in just two weeks .

I carry cross-draw , so I figured this would suit my needs .

To my surprise the cross draw slot allowed my Model 19 2 1/2" to show/print more than when I switched to the conventional slot .
Using the conventional slot the cant is still pretty neutral ( perhaps 5 degree ) and allows for a smooth draw so that's not a problem .

The holster allows for a nice tight reasonably high ride .

Seems well made and despite not having a reinforced mouth , the gun reholsters easily .

So far so good , now just gotta work on those squeaks ......

I have both a Simply Rugged Sourdough & Silver Dollar and they are excellent strong
side holsters, in the cross-draw role using the 3rd slot they are only passable. This
has nothing to do with the quality of the holster itself and only speaks to the compromise
that holster makers have to deal with when making a versatile holster, i.e. the 3rd slot.

Due to back issues I only carry cross-draw so
the following only deals with that style of carry.

Below you will see a SR Silver Dollar & a Mernickle cross-draw holster, both holding guns
with 3" barrels. In the photos you will see how the Silver Dollar doesn't support the bulk
of the gun's weight, which allows it to easily cant out from the body, especially when
bending forward. On top of that the gun, in this case a Ruger SP101, will also tend to
move in & out during physical activity even when your belt is snugged up good & tight.

Based on my experience the cross-draw role for the Silver Dollar & Sourdough would
be better suited to very lightweight guns with short barrels. The more weight you have
and the higher the weight is from the support of your belt the more your gun will want
to move around on you, in this case it generally wants to cant out away from the body.

I use simply rugged holsters for ccw and field work. I carry a 4 inch 29 dailywhen I'm not at work and love the way the holster works. The sour doah works so well for me that I can conceal a 6 inch 29 almost as easy. Great holsters that will have me purchasing more in the future.

I am wearing a Simply Rugged Sourdough with IWB straps right now. I am very satisfied with the comfort, concealment, and worksmanship of this holster.

Because it lacks a reinforced lip to the holster, it does take two hands to reholster a gun. I do not believe this is an issue for most of us. A working police officer will need to reholster quickly as he transitions down the force continuum, but most of us will not need that.
