Can you please be clear w/ description of gun?
Serial number is on the butt, under the grips and starts with three letter alpha followed by 4 numbers......like ABC1234. I'm curious how it could be 2 digit serial number???

I don't know much about matched sets but if your's is just one of the guns I don't see any higher value than most any other 6" M686.
With the combats I'd say around $500 to $600. MHO.
If you could find the guy that has the M617 that goes with your gun it might make a difference.

The trouble with collectibles is once they used and no longer have their original box/paperwork/etc. Then they really are just the same as any other like model as far as value.

Right. A matched set of a .357 686 and a .22 617 isn't a matched set if it's been broken up.
If only one is being offered and the other part of the set isn't part of the deal, then the single one being offered will have no value more than any other single pistol of the same model and condition.
I agree that $500 to $600 is about right for the one pistol. Any more than that and I'd pass.
