I have noticed a lot of Calif. DOC model 64 trade ins lately. Anyone know who the distributor is that has or had these? Thanks

Robertson Trading Post. They had P&R guns as well as non P&R. Conditions varied, and they would not pick through them and select a nice one. Mine was P&R and had many dings in the metal. I specifically asked if the grips matched the gun and was told they were not numbered. They lied to me as they were in fact numbered and to the gun.Felt like I was a bother to them asking questions. Total cost shipped was $409, and I would not do business with them again. Big Larry

They treated me like I was a bother as well.

I just got a 2 1/2 inch 66-3 in excellent shape from my local pawn for $430 otd....I think $409 is a little high for very used .38 specials...

I do like department marked service revolvers/pistols though...they are cool...

I believe the California department of correction and rehabilations trade ins also are available from Buds Guns. Robertsons has NC and Ohio DOC as well. My only dealing with Robertons was positive. I ordered an Ohio DOC surplus pancake holster which fit my SW model 10 with 3 " barrel (also a LEO. Trade in).

I like Robertsons, I have gotten 4 handguns from them and they had a TON of Czech State Police CZ-75 trade ins. I also got 2 Ruger Service Sixes and a .32 ACP CZ83.

I'm a trade-in handgun fanatic and I also have a soft spot for the European police and military stuff, and Robertsons is always getting stuff in like Swiss police trade in Sigs, etc.

The 64's they have are a bit on the high side, I got my 64-8 for $210 and he's asking $280 for them. Apparently they got quite a few of the Ohio DOC trade ins, since once one of them sells a new one gets posted right away. I like how he breaks down the timing on all 6 of the chambers for the revolvers.

By coincidence I just had delivered a 64 from Robertsons Trading Post, a DOC trade-in. They have 2 prices (right now) on these, $ 279.00 for the average gun and $ 339.00 for the best, which is what I bought. I found mine through GB but they sell on Guns America as well. Very fast service (shipped Tuesday, received at my LGS Thursday) and the gun was as good as they represented. I'm very satisfied. One nice thing, unlike Buds and other sites, you can actually see numerous pics of the exact gun you're buying. Mine even showed pics of the SN. What I picked out was what I received. And with a 3 day return policy. They also have 64 2" and some 67s. I hope this helps.

Right now the market is saturated with all these trade in, holster buffed 64's. People would have been falling all over themselves to pay $280-300 a year ago but now it's high, since SOSS is selling them for $210. A lot of the State DOC agencies are getting rid of the wheelguns, a lot of them newer 64-8's or 67's.

Condition collectors don't want trade ins, and the "average" shooter isn't looking for 4" .38 Special duty guns. I see the prices of the trade in 10's and 64's stabilizing for the next year or so, as this new batch of 1,000's of 64's changes hands on GB and at gun shows. SOSS says they are getting a new batch in soon, so we'll see.

I've been looking at getting one of the 64s from Robertsons. I started a thread about a week or so ago asking about which dash that Robertson's offered was most desirable. Now I'll have to give it a second thought. They also indicate that some of the 64s are RB. What to do... what to do?

Here is mine...

I've had great service and experience with Robertson. The gun was everything they advertised and when we talked on the phone they were more than helpful. I've got surplus guns from J&G - always a bit higher than everyone else - but always interesting stock.

As a matter of fact I just got a surplus glock this week from them. (Robertson)

I'm always on the look out for other dealers who is "SOSS"?

P.S.

This gun was mechanically NEW. Tight, timed and just like it came right out of the box. The grips were beat and there was plenty to clean up. It is exactly what I would have expected from a "police turn in".

The ones I have seen from Robertsons are Ohio DOC (not CA) trade ins and they do seem to have some pretty visible wear on them. They are also DAO.

I just purchased a near new 64-5 single action on guns america from Legendary Guns for $325. I don't know if it was a DOC trade in. It was not listed as such and it seems to be in a lot better cond then the ones I have seen from Robertsons.

Don't know if this helps any, but there are some good ones out there.

See if I got this right: They told you the grips were NOT numbered to the gun and it turned out they WERE numbered so now you are unhappy?

The 64s I've seen advertised through Robertsons were not DAO, my recent purchase certainly wasn't. And as for wear, as I said in an earlier post you can see pics on their web site of the actual gun you are looking at. Good descriptions and pictures so what you order is what you get.

I also bought an S&W model 64-3 DAO from Robertson trading post, it was in great shape. I paid 349.00 and they always treated me with respect and answer all my questions. I buy all my military surplus & police trade in guns from them, because they take pictures of each gun you always know what you're getting.Andy is good people.

J&G sales in Prescott on the other hand are a pleasure to deal with. On firearms such as these I've had them bring out as many as half a dozen to pick thru. I bought one of their Italian police Beretta Model 92s and they let me look until I found one I was satisfied with!
