Default Has S&W ever made my dream revolver?

I want an 8 shot model 27 or 627 in 3.5 or 4" with a round butt and a normal barrel profile(no flat sides or funny looking under lug). Preferably with no internal lock? Is this just a pipe dream?

This might get you headed in the right direction - a 627-5 with a 4 inch barrel round butt. I like this 627 much better than the 627 Pro I replaced it with. Never really warmed up to the slab sided barrel. I also replaced the front ramp sight with a fiber optic - lot easier to pick up in due to my failing eyesight. Does have the dread ILS, but this was too good a deal to pass up when I bought it new last summer. I think they've been out of production for the last couple of years, but could be wrong.

Good luck finding one, they're out there somewhere.

Pete

sbeatty1983,

S&W model 27-7 RB, 4 inch barrel, Performance Center was made in 2000 for Bangers. I believe they made 100 in 4 inch and 100 in 6 1/2 inch. S&W also made model 27-8 3 1/2 inch barrel, PC, but that was SB.

thanks for the replies. I can live with the lock, Azdover pictured pretty much exactly what im looking for. Hopefully i can find one for a decent price. The revolver bug has taken hold of me. I believe my 1911s are going to have to take a back seat for a while.

Sbeatty, if you can't find the specimen you want, I don't know why you couldn't take a stock six-shot 627 and replace the cylinder with a new eight-shot wheel. You'd need a new hand and maybe some tinkering with fit, but it should be doable. Maybe you could get a cylinder cut for moon clips, too. That would be a plus.

Very good idea. Didn't realize it could be done with just a few simple changes to the hand, etc. This is something I would seriously consider doing. I just don't care for the heavy lugged barrels for the N-frame in this caliber. But having more rounds in the cylinder of a otherwise standard size/weight N-framed .357 Mag. would be a lot of fun. JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.
