Default Ammo Suggestions for 360PD

I just got a 360PD. I just need suggestions for what ammo to carry. I now have Speer short barrel 130's in 357mag. They shot fine out of the gun. I really only plan to carry 357's. So I don't want to start a 357 vs. 38 +p debate. This gun is 100% for SD w/i very close range. Thanks all

Any of the Gold Dot offerings in .38 Special, .38 Special +P or .357 Magnum would be fine.

Sounds like you already have a good round?
I do like the Speer Gold Dot that you are carrying..
I also liked the Federal "low recoil" ammo in .357, but so far, the short barrel load from Speer is my favorite.

I know you do not want a debate about .38+P, but I do love the Buffalo Bore 158gr .38+P LSWCHP...that stuff is 1,000fps from a 2.5" barrel!

Good luck, keep us posted!

Ive had the best luck with Hornady custom and critical defense. Im speaking directly to the fact the Hornady doesnt jump crimp like most others. Im sure you know any SD ammo you try, load 5 shoot 4 and look to see how much the bullet crept forward from recoil.

The Hornady or Speers worked great in my M&P360. Wow, what a handful though!

One shot Hornady Mag short barrel low recoil and never again back to +p
Too much kick, flash not functional self defense in real life. Been there numerous times too self binding for further action after first shot. Save Mag ammo for heavier piece

If what you already works, why change? I think you have made a good choice, just the wrong caliber, but that is another topic entirely.

If you already found the 135 short barrel gold dots, you have the holy grail. They're hard to find. I also like the 140gr Barnes Vor-Tx.

My recommendation would be to forget the Magnums and use either Buffalo Bore 158 grain .38 Special +P LSWCHP-GC (1025 fps out of the 2" bbl) or Speer .38 Special +P 135 grain Gold Dot Short Barrel (850 fps.)

Magnums out of a 2" tube are pretty much a waste. WAY TO MUCH recoil, muzzle blast, noise, flash, and not much faster than what I mentioned above and could actually be slower depending on the grain weight bullet you use. The .357 Magnum was NOT meant for 2" guns! It was designed around 6" barrels and the powders they use is intended to be burned in a 6" tube. When shot from 2" tubes the powder is burned OUTSIDE the barrel - hence all the flash, noise, blast and recoil. You will be MUCH BETTER served using a GOOD .38 Special round IMHO.

Recovery time for follow up shots are much much slower with Magnum bullets out of a small light weight Revolver. Not to mention your Revolver, your hands and your ears will be getting beat up - I do assume you will be practicing with your carry ammo to some extent.

I carry the Speer Gold Dot 135 grain short barrel .357 in my 340PD. I recently shot the Speer 38 special 135 grain short barrel back to back with the .357 short barrel. I personally found that there is not too much difference. The .357 short barrel round obviously felt a little more powerful but still manageable. I think full house .357 is a waste but the short barrel .357 round is perfect.

Default 360pd wife ammo

Wife, a non shooter, just got motivated and want the 360pd with the lower recoil, I guess ideal would be 120 grain 38sp.
Got some 95 grain 38 (slow with wit) till i read the barrel, 120 or above.
Any thoughts?

In my 340PD I have been carrying 135 gr. Gold Dot Short barrel in 38 sp.

Last weekend I had a "shootoff" with a customer using that little gun shooting 125gr. handloads at 75' and 150" indoors strong hand only. Surprisingly accurate at 75', at 150' it left a bit to be desired.
