Default X frame scoping; mounting question

I got a wild hair up my *** and picked up a Weig-a-tinny rail, Weigand rings, and a Burris 2-7 handgun scope

I need to get that scope back as far as possible! I found that when I tried to do that, the rings will not mount to the rail next to each other. There must be one open slot in between. My options are to either mill the slots wider or thin the rings where they contact each other.

Has anyone else run into this? How did you handle it?

Thanks in advance!
Wally

I'm not sure why you need to mount the scope so far back but I think before I started cutting metal I would just eliminate one of the rings. If you eliminate the one closest to the adjustment turrets on the eye piece end, you should have plenty of adjustment room. Three rings should be more than sufficient to hold the scope.

Long arms

I thought about three rings, but since 4 are the recommendation for full house rounds, I have been reluctant. I'll do some more dry fitting and see what three will gain me beyond modifying for 4 to fit with two sets of two snug against each other.

I think you will find that the three will work for you. Just make sure you torque everything as tight as you can and use the friction paper that is included with the rings. They should hold the scope with any load that won't send your shooting arm into orbit.

thanks, I just did some dry fitting with just three rings, and as ridiculous as it sounds I don't really gain anything over 4 rings (if they were thinned to fit tightly against each other). The reason is because they silly Weig-a-tinny has a large flat area in the middle with no slots milled. Without slots you can't mount his rings. This is comical.

One thing that I did try was test fitting with just one on the sightpiece end instead of two. I would still need to custom fit 2 or 3 rings in front of the adjuster knobs, but with the scope back that far I get much more use of the higher powers! I like it a lot. Looks like I'll need to get to work on making these fit. It would be perfect if they had the foresight to ensure two rings fit next to each other, and to mill the rail uninterrupted. in 15 years, I'm the first to call and ask about this, LOL.

I'll have to post some pics once I'm satisfied. Thanks
