Default is the 43c bascially a 317?

Besides the finish color and Centennial vs. exposed hammer, are the 43c and the 317 basically the same?

Stated another way: is the 43c to the 317 what the 642 is to the 637?

I want a 43c but have a line on a decently priced 317 (I think). Thx.

You're correct, they are basically the same with the 43c having an internal hammer. I have a 317 and really like it, just wish it had a longer hammer spur. For concealed carry the 43c is definately more snag free plus I really like the Trijicon front sight blade. If you can get the 317 for a good price I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. They are both good little J frames.

Thanks. Is $380 + 20 ship a decent deal on a used 317?

I paid $390 for my used no lock 317 in good condition. A few scratches. But for pocket carry I still want the 43c when I save up the money. Plus the hammerless version stays cleaner and dryer inside.

I read the 317 weighs 9.9oz. It's very light. I use it as a sports gun for trail running, backpacking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking etc. Loaded with Aguila Interceptors.

That's a very good price as long as the 317 is in great condition. Buy it...

The 43C and 317 aren't as much alike as you might think.

I owned two 317s, snubbie and kit gun, and now have a 43C. The big difference between 43C and the 317 is the trigger. I don't know why, but the DA trigger pull on the 43C is so much smoother and feels lighter. S&W must have changed something to compensate for the fact that the 43C is DAO.

If you like to cock the hammer everytime get the 317, but if you like to squeeze 'em off, get the 43C.

The 43c...ahhh, the joys and simpiicity of a snubbie in .22lr! Dang little thing has an 8-shot cylinder and shoots 'em out as fast as you can pull the trigger. It weighs like 11oz, is just like my 642 in size and shape, and is more fun than oughta be allowed. I absolutely love this little revolver. And, the wife has had surgery on her hands so a more powreful gun just doesn't work for her. She can handle the 43c just fine though.

I have wanted a 43c for a long time, found a 317 with a crimson trace grips for cheap, I like it a lot, but still want a 43c. If I get one, it will have a pair of Barami hip grips put on it.
