Default Leather Holsters For X Frame Revolvers

Trying to get some ideas for X frame leather holsters. Would like to see pics of any you have/use and your opinions on them. I have a DeSantis shoulder rig as well as one from Pistol Packaging. The others listed on the S&W website are not what I'm looking for, so if you have a favorite/custom rig for your 500 or 460 please show it off. I know the X's are BIG for a belt holster, but I would especially like to see some of those. Thanks!

Chris, I saw your post about the thigh holster and if it works for you that's great, but I'm not sure it would be practical for tromping around thru the brush where I hunt. Would like to see a pic tho if you don't mind. Thanks.

This is a Nelson Leather Co. of Scio, Oregon shoulder holster I use for my 6.5" 500. I hunt with my 500 so weight, durability and accessibility are all important considerations for me.

They aren't the fanciest but are certainly the best buy in leather holsters for the X frame guns. I paid less than $85 plus shipping for the one pictured. They are available with either a clam shell spring like a Bianchi or a Safariland or a pouch type with a very secure snap like the one pictured. The X frame holsters are custom made for each barrel length and must be ordered.

I wear a shoulder holster for my back-up while hunting (686 .357) but my primary rides here. So far its not been a problem with brush or mobility. It has a dual security, a thumb snap and a velcro cover to protect the hammer strap.

Not sure how long your barrel is... I carry my 4" 500 S&W X-Frame in a 7X Leather chest holster system. I love it. The only pic I have right now of it is this poor cell phone pic we took while running trapline.

TDC, that looks like great rig and the price is certainly right!
Chris, the thigh rig is interesting. Looks like it would pull your drawers down even with the leg straps especially when doing a lot of walking and climbing. I like the position it rides in.
475, the chest rig is probably the perfect outfit for that barrel length and would probably work well for the 6 1/2" also.
I have an 8 3/8" and a 6 1/2" right now......maybe the 4" later. Thanks to all for the pics. I think I'll try to make a cross draw for the 6 1/2" first, then a chest or bandolero rig. I made a couple bandolero rigs for the 8 3/8" but didn't get a chance to give either a really good workout last year due to my wife's health problems, maybe this next fall things will settle down. Thanks again guys!

I don't personally own an X-frame but I have several large N frames and the best holster I've found for them is the Simply Rugged Pancake, which can be ordered with a chest attachement. Great service and relatively quick turnaround and very fair price for the quality. I'm almost sure it can be ordered for an x-frame. Simply Rugged Holsters

Thumbs up

Rest assured that Nelson Leather makes excellent holsters. I've been buying my leathergoods from them for 25+ years and I have never been disappointed.

No pic, but El Paso Saddlery #77 Tortilla carrys well for my 4".
I have had it for several years and was only $50 new. Costs a little more now though.
#77 "Tortilla" Holster

After owning a simply rugged sourdough for an N frame, I would look at one those.
