66 2 1/2"
I think the S&W 66 2 1/2" is one of the best looking revolvers.
Anyone agree?

I just finished installing a set of Ahrends Moradillo Wood Boot Grips that my wife gave me for Christmas on mine. It had been wearing Hogue Rubber Bantam Boot Grips for many years. Being that it is one of my favorite guns, I figured it deserved better.

Yes, the 2.5" 66 is a great looking revolver...
And I love the dangerously sexy looks of her brunette twin sister even more...

I got this one from my grandfather for Christmas. It was his nightstand gun for years and he knows how much I appreciate the older S&W's, so he gave it to me...my twin brother got a G19 (and he thinks he got the better gun of us two ) Sorry for the lousy cellphone photos...all I have 'til I get back to the house :/
Merry Christmas, guys.

I think that my 66-5 is sexy...
but I need a -4 or earlier model, which are so much sexier, due to the slightly different shape of the "rib" that sits atop the barrel (that the sight is mounted on) and the underlug shape seems a bit different too?
I hope to, one day, get my act together enough to learn how to post some pics on here! I keep braggin on my 66 snub and 340 M&P...but have posted no proof!

I have a 2-1/2" 66-4 that I've never shot. I bought it on GunBroker (at $416, I may have stolen it) earlier this year and it could almost pass for unfired. In fact, its cylinder turn ring is so faint and the gun is so clean that it might have only been dry-fired. I bought it as you see it in the first photo just to add to my modest Model 66 collection. It and its 66-2 cousins are in the second photo (but the other two now wear nicely-figured checkered target stocks).

Surely is. Pure class, just like a 27 IMO. Mine looks great in it's Lobo IWB and Ahrends Boot Grips IMO and shoots very well. I love my 3" Ashland a little more but to darn expensive for a carry weapon these days.
Have pics of the 3" but my camera died. Wife got a new one for Christmas, so will have pics up soon.

The Combat Magnum, 19/66, looks PERFECT in 2 1/2" just as the 27 looks PERFECT in 3 1/2"

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, or maybe it's because I carry a gun everyday
and have come to look at them as more of a tool, but I don't see the beauty in guns like I used too.
The only reason I say this is that one of the glaring exceptions to this is my 2.5" Model 66-2.
Everyday that I carry it, when I get home and take it out of it's holster I can't help but look at it
for a few seconds and admire how form & function all come together to make such a perfect package.
Another exception is my 6" pre-Model 27 with blueing rarely seen, if at all, on the guns made today.
It's just one of those things that stops & makes me stare.

Thanks, guys. I really do appreciate this gift from him. He also gave me a mid-60's vintage M17-2 about 9 months ago when my son was born...something to pass on down from generation to generation. I plan on getting some better photos of the 66-1 w/ the 17-2 when I get back from the in-laws.
The K22 he also gave me...

Here's a 66-3 that had a little work done on it. It's a fine shooter and carries well.

I've gone back to Pachy Compacs on my snub 66-2, seen here with its' trusty sidekick. Great six shooters.

oh yeah, my 66 no dash is by far the most favorite gun i own, and i own a bunch of other stuff. it is a little on the heavy side, but its comforting to know its there with me. mine sports a set of hogue goncalo alves mono grip. love it and will never part with it. many come and go from my collection, but this one is forever.

The 642 is wearing out of production Fitz grips, and I haven't been able to find another set of these black ones for several years. A search on fleabay will sometimes give up a set of Fitz target grips, but his carry grips seem rare.

Poohgyrr... hey buddy... nice to see you. The Pachy Compacs are arguably the best choice for shooting comfort and control of a small magnum! What they lack in the visual "wow" factor, they more than make up for when the "pedal meets the metal".

Now most of my revolvers ARE short barrelled. 2-3 inch, but the M66 shortie is just about THE top favorite!

Even though I've had it less than a month, my 66-4, 2.5" is fast becoming my favorite gun.
I went shooting yesterday. Here's a few of the targets.
Note the accuracy at 30' compared to my 4" 64-5. The SA shooting is every bit as good as the 4" 64. The DA is a little worse, not making excuses here - but the trigger on the 66 is heavier. Given the condition of the 66 (perfect) and that the sights had NEVER been adjusted when I got it, I'm thinking it might have been unused (the 66).
Oh, OH, another 'non-excuse', my son kept bumping the table we were sitting at....
Edit: Sidenote on ammo: For practice I'm loading 158gr LSWC with 3.4 gr of HP-38. (Load range is 3.2gr - 3.6gr according to Hogdon). I gotta say, that is one nice practice load!

Some beautiful grips on this thread, on some great looking Smiths. Here's my 2 1/2" 19 followed by my favorite 66-4. As much as I like the 2 1/2" 19/66s, the 3 inchers are to me...the perfect size.

I'm curious, what do you guys think a 66 2.5" LNIB with tools and papers would be worth? I'm not convinced that the tools are original, the cleaning rod is for a longer barrel and the bag has been opened, but the box looks genuine. I think this gun is a -3 but am not positive about that. It is pinned & recessed. It looks perfectly pristine, I'd not be surprised if it has never been fired after coming from the factory.
I have a nickel 19 in 2.5" and like that gun a lot, but would love to have a 66 too.

Pinned and recessed models were the 66 no dash, and 66-1. Either of those with box, and papers, $600-$650 range. 66-2 on up $50-$75 less.

I agree! The snub 19/66 is in the same class as the snub 27. The short barrel and a small roundbutt grip make them look like the body builders of the line. Just a muscular look about them. Something you can imagine Dick Tracy carrying, all business, no monkey business.

Yup, you're right. I went back and looked and it's a 66-1. Very nice gun, but the firm price is $695 so a little steep. Not bad, though, and I suppose a couple of years from now that'll seem like a steal if things continue to go as they have.....
