I have never had any dealings with them on a pistol but I have been around people using ported barrel shotguns and have shot them some. I can't tell that they help recoil but they sure are loud and annoying to be around. A barrel only needs 2 holes. One to put the bullet in and one at the other end for the bullet to come out. Larry

Not this AGAIN - The IL isn't going away! I thought only the bore was different, and that the rest of the barrel/frame was the same between the two. 460 comp on a 500 would be a no-no, but 500 comp on a 460 would work. 45cal vs 50.
Makes sense. Now... WHERE DO WE SEND PAYMENT?

Very nice 4" .500 setup you have there.
Does look a bit strange with that comp on there, espically seeing it with holes ----------
Our large gun shop where I just bought my S&W 8 3/8" .460 just got in the S&W .500 in both the 4" & 6 1/2" barrels.
I've never shot the 4" .500, but it sure looks tempting !
Since I already have the 6 1/2" i'm thinking ------ HUM ?

S&W made a factory one for the 460s, just not the 500s. They are hard to find though. You will still go deafer than hell shooting a 460 without ears in either case.
