Default 686-1, Not a P model?

There is a 686-1 for sale on another forum for the asking price of $650.00; also in the description is the phrase "not a P model". My question is what is a P model? Also what do you think is a fair offer on this gun assuming it is in very good condition?

Probably means it's not a Plus model, 7 shot etc, which a dash one would not be anyway. That's about the going price, maybe $50 too high.

That is probably what is meant. I can't find any references to "P model" in my Std Catalog of S&W. I sent a PM to the seller asking about this but he hasn't responded yet.
Thanks,

The 7-shot or Plus model began with the 686-4. A 2.5, 3 or 4" is more expensive than the 6", but $650 sounds high for any of them.

I just bought a 686 6", early 80's with box and factory grips in 99% condition for $490. I think $500-525 should be the upper limit.

Just to finish this thread, I bought this 686-1, the seller posted in the ad "not a P model". What he meant by that is, it is NOT a plus model. Which is a given on a -1 model.

By the way it cost me $575 including my dealers FFL fees for this revolver.

And it is a 2.5" with S&W combat grips.
