Looks like a simple cylinder swap from a stainless J.

Dunno if the timing is correct, but I like the look.

I like it. So tell us what you did, is the cylinder refinished, polished? Can you so the whole gun that way? Nice.

So, I was sitting I front of the tv last night looking at the 438 sitting on the table. Figured it needed some contrast. I took the black finish off with some 600 grit paper, then polished with 1000, then a final polish with 2000. Last step was a little mothers, and there you have it! Only took me about an hour. I was thinking of doing the barrel also but I hunk the cylinder gives it just enough!

I hope that is a stainless cylinder! It appears as though it has a carbon steel barrel.
How old is that gun?

Thats funny that the barrel is carbon steel? I thought it would be the same as the 442? Like I said, I hope the cylinder is stainless! I guess you will know soon enough!

I am way ahead of you dude, but my duo-tones have stainless cylinders. The originals were blued steel, so polishing was out of the question. This is a 38-2 with a stainless cylinder assembly. There are a couple of others on the forum here that have "been bored" and converted with either stainless or nickel. I think it's a great idea. I am stuck with the blued barrel, but I am not about to go changing that at the risk of cracking an alloy frame.
