Default .45 ACP Revolver Picture Thread (All Models)

(Did a search first to see if there was a thread like this and didn't find one. If I missed it please forward the link!)

I just purchased my first .45 ACP S&W revolver on Friday. It is a model 625-6 with 5" barrel. I bought it from a friend of mine. It is in excellent condion and came with several full and half moon clips. I also own several semi-auto .45 handguns, so this 625 is going to be a good fit. Can't wait to shoot it

I looked for an appropriate thread to post pictures, but couldn't find one. So, I created one. PLEASE feel free to contribute pictures of your .45 ACP revolvers!!

I haven't taken any pictures with my camera yet. These are a couple I got from my friend. I promise to take a few better ones soon!!

Post 'em if you got 'em!!

I have a couple

I shoot a lot of .45 AR thru them. The cylinder on the JM had to be replaced since it had tool lines in it. I was told that was fairly common. S&W paid the freight and took care of it for me.

I have a pair of 625's (a 625-6 with a 5" barrel and a 625-8 JM Special with a 4" barrel). They are my most shot revolvers. I have EXTREMELY high regard for this combination.

While I load both .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim, I prefer the Auto Rim for general range use.

I cast my own bullets and shoot mostly a Mihec clone of the H&G #68 flat base bullet.

Welcome to the club!

Nice pics. My 625-6 was stolen in a burglary a few months ago, and I sure do miss it. I'm having a 4" 629-4 converted to 45 ACP/AR by Bowen right now, and look forward to getting it and putting rounds downrange.

Hey... y'all forgot one!

It has a tritium night sight, 2.75" barrel, and is Al/Sc framed and weighs <30 oz. Oh yeah, it'll also chamber and fire .45 Schofield & Colt as well as 2.5" .410 shells.

No need in posting a picture of my 625JM - there have been a few of them already.

I have one .45 ACP revolver... a 625-2 which I bought in 2009. Being ignorant... I let it sit in the case at the LGS for a while. It sat there along with a 625-4... and then I got some sense and bought the 625-2. With plain Jane Winchester 230 gr. FMJ ammo it will keep 50 shots inside of 4 inches at 25 long steps. At 40 long steps it will routinely hit a 6 inch aiming square on a rifle type sight-in target. It handles the WOLF steel cased ammo just as well as standard brass cased ammo, which for me is a real advantage as the WOLF is about $25/100 while the Winchester is $36/100. When I'm out in the woods/fields walking and plinking, being able to let the casing hit the ground is for me an advantage. I must say that even for a S&W, this revolver demonstrates a most remarkable SA and DA trigger. I've never had to adjust the sights because from the first round POA was POI at my normal shooting distances, i.e., 7-25 yds. I am not supremely thrilled with the Hogue grips that came on it. But they fit my hand well and give me very good results at the range. Currently the Hogues are on the revolver. But I suspect that down the road I'll be looking at a pair of Elk horn grips... white w/ no "bark." I figure that will look real nice. Here is a link to some pictures: S&W 625-2 - a set on Flickr

I used to let her wear some Pachy Presentaion grips:

I find that Ahrends with finger grooves fit my hand like they were custom fitted to me. And the gun is heavy enough that I feel like it just soaks up most of the recoil. Most of what I feed her are my own cast bullets. I cast 200gr SWC's and 200gr RNHP and load either of them with 5.5 gr of Win 231. I love either load.

Here is a pic of my 5" M-625. It is soon to be converted to a 4" Mountain Gun. I think that will make it a whole lot easier to pack around. I am also going to remove the safety lock and install the "Plug".....

Just picked this up this 625-2 today from LGS. 10 more days to get it out of jail in SOCAL. It will go with my other 5 inch 625-4.

Sorry you lost one. I'll be looking forward to hearing about your conversion. I've been kicking around a similar project.

Default Well, since no one has shown one yet...

Here is a picture of my bullseye revolvers - the bottom two are my 45 ACPs, one a Model 1989 and the other a very early (one of the first 100) JM models from the PC. Both wear Nill Hemphill PPC grips. The 1989 shoots superbly, but I'm still trying to work up a good 50 yard load for the JM. Both have extraordinarily smooth actions and are very easy to shoot DA in timed and rapid.

625 - 4" (started life as a 5"). Shortened barrel with new crown. Interchangeable front sight with Millett rear. SDM cut checkered cylinder release and a set of Jerry M's nice grips. It's amongst my most likes S&W revolvers I have ever owned or fired.

This chambering is in a tie with the 44 Special as my favorite caliber for the N-frame. From oldest to youngest:

1917 that got customized by an un-known previous owner.

Model of 1950 45 Military

45 Cal. Model of 1955, with barrel shortened to 5".

Custom blue steel 45 ACP Mountain Gun - 25-2 w/ 4" 1950 bbl.

Model 625-2

This is my current favorite. I've had it about two months, so far I've smoothed the action and installed Wolff springs.

625-2 replaced the pacs with an older set of Ajax black pearls not to bad shooting. This one is a keeper for sure.

ChattCat,

That's an interesting front sight on your 625-2. Looks like a combination ramp/patridge. Was that original to the gun, or did you make a change?

Lou
