Default 329 xl Hunter - dropped

Just called Smith. The 329 xl Hunter has been dropped. None were ever made and none will ever be made. Darn!

I wonder what the big deal was in making it? Seemed like just a longer barrel on a 329pd.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I saw an older episode of Guns & Ammo TV. Dick Metcalf did a bit on one, shot a few rounds and compared it to the 329 PD. Too bad.

All I know is that they had engineering problems with it. No idea what those problems were.

Just a guess -- I imagine the short barrel on the Night Guard model would be fairly strong for it's length, but if you stetched it out for a longer model there may have been some issues relating to flex and fatigue.

Well, its a shame. It was on my short list of newish guns I wanted. In fact, it might have been the entire short list.

Totally weird. S&W rep at SCI told me the 329 XL was never built and never would be and that it was dropped from their web site. Not sure how one slipped thru the cracks if you seen it on a TV show.

I verified it was not on their web site the middle of Feb 2012 and guess what? It is now back on their site. Maybe this time around they will make it. But it really seems like S&W doesnt know it's butt from a hole in the ground on this one.

Ruger is just as bad,,,I don't know where they find these jokers that they send to the shows. The Ruger rep at the Elk Foundation show got into a full-on argument with me about how they cannot make a Ruger 480 because the cylinder is not big enough??? I said "it is your creation and you did make them" "nope, we can't" Plus there is no market in the hunting revoler. So this moron brings a pile of little LCR's to the RockyMountain Elk Foundation Hunting Show

I remember watching Guns and Ammo TV this winter and maybe it was a repeat , but they were test firing and bragging one of the never made 329XL hunters . Also Cabelas ran an add awhile back for I think 800 something , but other than that show I have never seen one . Hmm ! Curious ?

Description: S&W M329XL 163405 44M 6.5 HNTR BL

Sports South has had them in the catalog for quite a while now. Never noticed if any were in stock.
