Default 629-3 rear sight assembly

Need some help locating the right rear sight assembly bought a gun with a scope I am going to remove the scope but I can not figure out exactly which assembly I need I know you guys will be able to help. Thanks

You will need one with a square forward end on the tang. Rounded tangs began with 629-4s. The height of the blade differs, too, but I can't say what height you want.

I suggest you contact S&W and give them the serial number of your 629. Not only are there differences in the forward end of the tang,the heighth of the blades, but there are also differences in the location and size of the front hole.

If if is a 6" barrel, the height should be .146 for the rear blade. There is a chart of all the heights on the forum somewhere.

The mounting hole location was changed in the 1970s sometime and sights with the rearward-placed hole are hard but not impossible to find. While the two pages in the SCoSW on sights doesn't mention the hole location change, the section on the Model 15 does.
