I have been checking stocking dealers for 4" Model 500's, They all are Out of Stock-- Does S&W still produce these?

You might take a look at the S&W website/catalog to see if it's still in the lineup. But that doesn't necessarily prove anything, a couple of years ago I was in the market for a 4" 610 and the website showed it as a current production item, but a bunch of calls to distributors and emails to S&W later proved otherwise and it was soon dropped from the site.
I used to see the 4" guns in shops all the time, but now that I think of it I cannot recall seeing one in a while.... But there ought to be barely used ones out there and available from time-to-time.

They no longer make the ES. You will pay an arm and a leg if you can find one.

No ES as was said, and expensive if you find one.
Our large gun shop just got in the S&W .500 in both the 6 1/2 " & 4".
So just get the 4".

They have become unobtanium. I remember seeing them for $800 as they are pretty useless in that config. The last one I saw on the broker went for.... are you ready......$2,225.00 24 bids on the thing.

The S&W website shows two 4" models, one the standard and another that is apparently some sort of dealer exclusive with a bear picture on the right side and tracks on the cylinder. The standard model was some $1300.
No ES or 2 3/4" models were shown.
As was said, nothing is guaranteed, check with S&W themselves to be sure. Don

Can someone else with this model confirm the prefix of their serial number? I'm not saying the revolver was replaced but it does seem strange the 500es is missing. The snubby was also made without the kit minus the engraving.

I thought the 500ES only came in Yellow and Red hogue grips. Never black as part of a kit. It does have the ring out of the bottom of the grip though.

"The snubby was also made without the kit minus the engraving."
The 500es kit came with orange grips. The 460 kit came with yellow grips. The 500 snubby was also available with the standard black grips and NO kit.
It's not uncommon for someone to remove the orange grips and ring and replace it with black grips and keep the gun. Then they could sell everything minus the gun. If you bought it, all you had to do was buy the snubby and you would essentially have an Alaskan Survival kit minus the engraving on the side plate. Some people have no use for the accessories. Understand now?

Yeah, new they were offered stand-alone, but didn't realize the ones which came with the kit had special engraving. Learn something new every day. I wouldn't mind one just to round out the 500 collection, but not at what I'd have to pay to have one.

You can see the red grips in the box in the first gunbroker pic and the side markings are faint but appear similar to those on my 460es? Could be a swap gun, but seems to be the real deal, seller is probably kicking himself for putting a buy it now option....

Now that you mentioned it I cleaned my glasses and darkened my screen a little and it does appear to be very faint. It's as if someone tried to polish it off.
