Lightbulb A Very Rare Find the Model 632 Centennial revolver chambered in .32 H&R Magnum

Hello
While sitting at the gun show Tables of a friend last weekend, an older Gentleman walked up to us asking about some grip's we had lying there for sale. I noticed her had an Older Lear Sigler time span box tucked under his arm from the late 1980's-Early 1990's time span. I asked him what he had in his S&W box ? He said that he had brought an older S&W Air-Weight chambered in .32 H&R Magnum to sell, that he had Never fired. I happen to Love the .32 H&R Magnum round, so I asked him if I could see it ? I Opened the box which read Double action revolver on it, and found a Mint factory fired only Model 632 Centennial Air-Weight lying there, wrapped up in Knox rust Paper. Under it was all of the guns Paperwork just the way it left the factory in 1991 as he told me he had bought it brand new back then. I then asked what he wanted for it, and he said that he had to get what he paid for it in 1991 which was $275.00.

I could not get the cash out fast enough to pay for this gun, as I had only seen one in Pictures up until this point. Long story short, he is without his Centennial and I now have a very unique gun. I learned that they only made 1035 of these in their total production life of 1991-1992 before they were discontinued. This was the Highlight of the show for me as these S&W J-Frame.32 H&R Magnum revolver's do not pop up often. I have had a model 331 Ti-Scan revolver in this caliber in the past as well as it's stainless version cousin being the 631 2" snub as well as the 4" Target sighted version. I am now carrying the latest discontinued model 431 P.D. chambered in .32 H&R Magnum that I have had about Six years now.

As I looked this gun over closer I see some very noticeable differences in it from my other S&W J-Model variations in .32 H&R Magnum. The barrel is a one piece stainless steel barrel with simply .32 Magnum stamped on it as well as the cylinder is made of Stainless steel. The frame is of Scandium-Aluminum but lacks any identity stamp's of it seen on other Scandiam-Aluminum models. For some strange reason, the guns serial number is Laser Machine etched on the bottom side of the top strap area as well as the butt of the gun ? The grip's are made by Uncle Mike, yet the Standard catalog of S&W say's these came with rosewood stocks ? I have found in other Gun Referance Publications that these did come with the Uncle Mikes rubber finger groove combat style stocks like this one has though, as my 431 P.D. came with Houges on it with the S&W Medallions stamped into them.

Oddly, the S&W Trade Mark stamps are different as one is stamped into the silver finish, yet on the other side of the gun one is Laser etched and highlighted in Black as shown. I was very Pleased to run across this gun and even more pleased when I heard of how few of them were made. It was a Nice addition to my other S&W .32 H&R Magnum caliber family, Too Bad they do not offer these anymore as I have had many ask about the caliber chambered in current S&W's offered at Previous gun shows, of which I have to tell them it is not available any more... For those of you Interested in the .32 H&R Magnum caliber, here is the Rarely seen Model 632 Centennial Air-Weight revolver..

Congratulations, great story and a great deal. I found my 632 Airweight in a pawn shop a few years ago, just the gun with no extras, and still paid more than you did. They also made the 632 Airweight in a 3" barrel version. I'm pretty sure the 632 came from the factory with the larger Uncle Mike's 3 finger combat grips. The 631 Ladysmith is the one that came with factory smooth rosewood grips (those are Hogue's in the picture), and the 631 came with the combats.

Default airweight 32 mag

i am a fan of the 32 mag, i have a 631 4inch and two ruger single sixes in that caliber.
the only other s&w i have seen with the serial number etched in the top strap was a s&w model 040 which is just like a 442, which were made from 642 frame that would not match up in color to the stainless barrel and cylinder so they were anodized black and made into 040 model.

I want one of those to go with my 632 PP and my .32 D Special. .32's are just cool....fun to shoot, great to reload, serious defense round with the right loads.

Hello PM Ret & Other's
Nice Heard of .32 H&R Magnum revolver's you have there ! I see the S&W Trade Marks stamps on our 632's are slightly different with your's being stamped into the silver color of the frame, and mine being stamped into the frame Yet Highlighted in Black. My Gun shipped late in this Model series being October 1992 the last year they offered them, Perhaps yours is a first year gun from 1991, and that Might explain the different Trade mark stampings ?

I have had every offering in the .32 H&R Magnum caliber that S&W has made in a J-Frame only lacking the 032 which is Very Rare & was produced in Black Chrome finish, and the 432 Air-Weight. I started out with the model 331 Ti-Scan model snub, then got the 4" Kit gun adjustable sight variation, and aded the 2" Lady Smith with the Rosewood stocks. I then picked up the 431 P.D. Model of which I carry daily now and most recently the model 632 Centennial double action only revolver shown above. Here is the group of the ones I mentioned above....Sad S&W does not make any of these great guns any more, I feel now that the .32 H&R Magnum Cartridge is accepted more than it was when it first came out....

Model 331 Ti-Scan Air-Lite

Model 631 Kit Gun

Model 631 Lady Smith

Model 431 P.D. Air-Weight

Nice factory stocks on your revolvers... are you gonna' leave the boot grips on the "new" one or change 'em out to wood?

Looks like my 632 does date to 1991. It has the modified S&W stamped on the sideplate and the regular S&W trademark stamped on the left side of the frame. The serial number is on the butt only, and not etched into the top strap as you describe yours.

My first .32 was the Ladysmith, I stumbled across it online at a very good price and once I took it to the range I was hooked. Then I got interested in the K frames... The .32 H&R magnum and .32 S&W long are my favorite cartridges, and as you say they seem to have become more popular lately. I think S&W is missing the boat by not producing a K frame in .327 Federal, which of course would fire all 3 rounds.

Really nice gun and at a bargain price! Congratulations.

I too like the 32 H&R Magnum and have an SP101, Ruger SS, and a S&W 431. I carry the 431 a lot but normally load it with Federal 32 H&R 85 grain JHP which is a moderate load.

Is the 431 strong enough to handle, say the new Buffalo Bore 32 Magnum+P loads? Or should I stick to the lower pressure rounds? Love the 431 either way. Any help with this will be appreciated.

Hello Gail & Noah228 & PMRet
They will stay on it as I Gave it to my Wife for a Valentine's Day Present and it is her gun now. I feel the rubber stock's will take the Bite out of the .32 H&R Magnum round's recoil...
To be honest with you Noah I hand load all of my .32 H&R Magnum rounds. I can say that what I Load them at is a Tad bit hotter than any Factory offered ammunition currently made out there and I have not had any issues with my 431 PD Revolver.... I Guess there were some subtle difference's in the short Two years these were made as we have one from both years it was offered and the differences show to be true between them...

Default 32 mag

I thought S&W was still making runs of the 431 and 432 at least on a limited bases, I have a 431PD with test fired date of 10-14-2010. There seems to be several 431 and 432 for sale out there.

I just recently bought a 631 2" and I am really liking the .32 round. I was just at the range yesterday and went through a box of .32 S&W long. I also had about 12 rounds of H&R mag and really did not feel a noticeable difference between the two. How ever looking at the price of ammo I thing I am going to have to pick up a set of Lee dies and look for some load data.

P.S. Hammerdown that was one hell of a good deal.

Hello Chopola
Welcome to the forum. Your gun was made in 1991-1992 time span. In 1992 they discontinued the 3" Barrels making the 3" Version like your's hard to locate due to low production. There is no way to tell, but I was told that they only made 1050 of these Air-Weight's total production considering the 1-7/8" & 3" Barrel model's from 1991-1992. The box you have shown is for another gun as your's would have come in a Blue-White cardboard one pice box. I doubt that your gun has been fired much as it still appears to be like new. Regards, Hammerdown

Hello Peyton

Being that I an a .32 H&R Magnum Fanatic as well, I can tell you that gun's in that chambering from S&W do not come along often enough. Now that Other's have seen how accurate it is and the fact that S&W did not make many gun's chambered in it, it seems to have a Cult following. I was Very Lucky to have located the 632 Centennial that is shown in this thread, as I never suspected one would show up walking around at a Gun show never the less, and unfired one like I bought with the original box, & Paperwork. The Old Man that I bought mine from was all excited when I bought his Centennial 632 as he told me he was going to buy one of the newer one's chambered in Federal .327 Magnum. I did not share with him how scarse these were, or try to correct him on his Market Value of mine being $275.00 but I bet about Now, he regret's selling me his Unfired 632 Centennial.... I still have not fired this gun and don't know if I ever will. It now belong's to my wife and sit's on her Nightstand when we sleep at night...

Dang you got a smoking deal! I often wondered why S&W named two different revolvers the same model??

Hello Peyton

I sure did, and the Old Man that sold it to me was Pleased to offer it at his set price of $275.00 so it was a Win-Win sittuation on both sides. I have wondered as well Just Why S&W named the new Performance center Carry Comp the same model number as a Centennial. Odd Two very different gun's carrying the very same model number. I myself Prefer the Original 632 Centennial that I bought over the new Carry comp. I am not much on Two Piece barrel's, full Lug's or slab sided barrel's on a carry gun the Older Original Centennial seem more in line to me..... I sure "WISH" That S&W would come out with some Normal gun's in the Federal .327 Magnum as they Offered in the .32 H&R Magnum round. I for one would be a Player of that round placed into a K-Frame Target sighted model in Nickel to sit along side my Modified Model 16-4 Blued example as I would not have to worry about Carry wear if they Offered One in Factory Nickel finish.... I would Kill to have one with a 4" Barrel of Under Lug design, to me it would be the Perfect wood's carry revolver. I am at this time working on this year's Hunting load's for my Modified 16-4. There seem's to be a, aweful Lot of hand loading information out there on the Federal .327 Magnum cartridge, when compared to the much Tamer .32 H&R Magnum cartridge, I don't see the Federal .327 Magnum being Kicked to the Curb as the .32 H&R Magnum cartridge was. I have been using Remington Brand small Rifle Primer's in the round as they are far less to blow out when the wick is turned up Higher on them... I started using the small Rifle primer's on the .32 H&R Magnum Load's Years ago when I was having primer's blow out due to higher pressures when loaded hot and they actually give me a better smaller group size than the small Magnum Pistol primer's ever did...Hammerdown

Welcome to the forum, that's a great gun to make an entrance with. As Hammerdown said, your gun and box do not match, the original box would look like the one in the picture. As for value, I would say in the $650-700 range, maybe more. I paid about $500 for this one a couple years ago and thought it was a decent deal, and they have definitely increased in price and demand since then.

Thanks for educating pn my new piece. I thought it was the wrong box but the previous owner argued with me about it showing how it fits perfectly in the case...lol. I paid $350 for it so im happy. this is one for the collection and cant wait to shoot it. is there any specific ammo that this piece likes better than the next? Thanks all

I'm a 32 Mag fan too! Here's my M631 sn BKZ1939 shipped in 1990, I bought it new in the box in '92 for $300. I understand they only made 5474 of these?

And here is my M632 sn BFV7934 shipped 7/15/1991, Ivory grips & engraved by Joe Mason:

And a K32 that has been reamed out to chamber 32 Mag:
