Default 357 in a 357 M19-6

I haven't posted here much but do read from time to time. I recently acquired a M19-6 and have been shooting my reloaded 38 spl. It is a really nice gun.

Anyway, I am going to load for some light 357 loaded aith a 158 grn bullet. I get my brass by buying new and saving the brass.

I have read about how K-Frames cannot shoot full load 357 rounds. Is this true? I do not want to ruin the pistol.

Beautiful 19-6. Congrats!

You can shoot 158 grain 357's through that model 19 with no worries. The alleged "weakness" of K-frame magnums in general, and the 19 in particular has been way overblown by the internet.

Keep the barrel and forcing cone free of lead build up. Stay away from the hot 125 grain 357 loads. Do these two things and your great grandchildren will be enjoying that fine revolver. Regards 18DAI

Thanks. I always wondered why S&W would make a 357 that did not shoot 357 .

That is one fine looking 19 you have there! I have a 2 1/2" 19-5 I use for carry on occasion and load it with Remington .357 Mag mid-range 125 grain Golden Saber's. These will not hurt your gun if you choose to use them for a defense load. Enjoy that fine 19!!

I shoot almost exclusively 158 grain magnum loads in my 19s. Never a problem in thousands of rounds.

Something you will want to do, since you've been shooting 38's in it. Give the cylinder a good cleaning with a bronze brush to get all the carbon and lead out of it or you may have problems extracting the 357Mag cases. Also, M19 can use 357Mag, it's what they were designed to shoot BUT as a general rule LEO's would practice with 38's and carry 357's for Social Work. The Forcing Cone is suppose to be the "issue" with em' so keep an eye on that and I think you'll be fine.
