Default S&W 631 2"

This is my first S&W revolver. Picked it up at a local gun store for $325. I think that was a pretty good price. I can't find much info on this model. I believe only 190 were made and there is a number 112 etched on mine in a couple places. I would appreciate any info and an approximate value. There also are several different numbers on the frame, any ideas what these are? Thanks ya'll.

Default 631

I have one just like it except mine says Ladysmith on it.
I will trade you !
No, I wanted the gun, but I don't like the Ladysmith part much.
P.S. I paid $500.00 for mine what with shipping and transfers anyway.

All the numbers you mentioned are just assembly numbers that were used in the production of the gun, and have no significance now. The round stickers are inspector's stickers. The serial number can be found on the butt of the gun.

The .32 magnum model 631, 631 Lady Smith, and 632 Airweight Centennial were produced in very limited quantities for a short time in the early 90's. As such, they are fairly scarce and usually command a high price. A 631 in like new condition with original box, papers, and grips recently sold on Gunbroker for over $1000. Your gun would have shipped from the factory with Goncalo Alves combat grips like the ones on the middle gun in the picture. Even without the original grips or accessories, you probably still have a $500-600 gun. You got a great deal on a really fine revolver!

A lot of folks, me included , really like the J frame .32 magnums. They offer the advantage of 6 shots vs. 5 when compared to the other J frames, plus you have the option of firing mild .32 S&W long ammo for practice purposes.

There was another very recent thread on this same model that will provide more information if you will do a search.

Thank you for the info gentlemen. I have never really been much of a wheel gun man but I am really liking this little pistol. So much so that I have been looking at other S&W's. I didn't think the grips where original as the numbers inside didn't match any on the revolver. I would really like a pair like the original. Any suggestions where I should search? Thanks again.

Tex

Even the original grips wouldn't be numbered to the gun, as S&W stopped this practice several years before the model 631 was produced. I would place an ad in the "Wanted to Buy" section of the classifieds here, and also check eBay, Gunbroker, etc. You are looking for S&W Factory J Frame Round Butt Combat Grips. Good luck in your search, and congratulations again on a great deal.

Thanks PMRet, just put some on my watch list on Gunbroker. I and going to a gunshow this weekend and hope to find some there if not I'll bid on the Gunbroker ones. If you have a minute would you mind looking at the link and seeing if these are the correct ones? Thank you.
