Default 686+ vs 686 Talo

I'm looking at the S&W site, and trying to understand the differences between the new 686 Plus and 868 3-5-7 Magnum (Talo) model.

Obviously, the noticeable differences are that the Talo gun has the un-fluted cylinder and a wood grip, while the Plus model has the conventionally fluted cylinder and the synthetic rubber grip.

So...what else? Am I missing something? And, why does Talo (whatever they are) need to be involved with those particular models?

Thanks!

Talo is a distributor which orders dozens or hundreds of revolvers made to their design specifications. These specifications include barrel length (typically 3"), unfluted cylinders, special grips (typically wood) and logos. Functionally, they are the same as other S&W revolvers of that basic model. AFIK, Talo revolvers don't have any special finish or trigger work.

Thanks. And, unfortunately, the second I posted this question, I realized it was going to be a lesson in futility...

I'm in California, and there's not a chance that the Talo models will make it on the "approved" roster. We're stuck with just the standard Plus models, but nothing "limited" or "special edition" or limited run.

Oh well...

I am trying to justify the Talo because I want the unfluted cylinder. I wonder if that part could just be ordered direct from S&W. The grips do nothing for me.

Interesting idea. I don't know why that un-fluted cylinder wouldn't be available on its own. It's a current production gun. Unless, the whole point is that the Talo models make use of remaining stock of said cylinders that S&W simply had previously manufactured?
