Default S&W 547 price

What would be a fair price for a 547, 9mm. Not sure of barrel length, they were either 3 or 4 inch. Good condition with box, cleaning rod and some literature ? I saw alot of Smiths at this shop today and I'm missing some details. Pen & paper from now on. Thanks.

Agree with peyton, $800 is a very good price; up to about $900-1000 is about the range for NIB, especially for the 3" pinned barrel version.

Peyton, you should find some speedloaders and take it out. It is a great gun. I have a 3" RB and it took some time to find the speedloaders but they can be found. Most interesting piece.

Here's my track on both:

Smith & Wesson 547 4” SB Revolver in 9 mm. Bluebook of Gun Values (32nd Edition) indicates between $575 in 95% condition and $775 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 52 recorded prices for this model gun from $450 to $1299 over a period of 8 Yrs 2 Mos ending October 15, 2011. The average price as of that date was $711. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $317.

Smith & Wesson 547 3” RB Revolver in 9 mm. Bluebook of Gun Values (32nd Edition) indicates between $575 in 95% condition and $775 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 61 recorded prices for this model gun from $500 to $1295 over a period of 8 Yrs 4 Mos ending December 12, 2011. The average price as of that date was $786. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $317.

Here's a chart comparing the data. The chart is about a year and a few prices behind but you get the idea.

Better examples would command higher than average prices, especially with box, papers, tools, and so on.

The three inch price still seems to be appreciating but behind inflation, The four inch is appreciating faster. There were fewer of the four inch.

Interesting chart 5wire, did you make that or did you gain that out of blue book? I'd say the information is pretty accurate, but sellers are often getting about whatever they ask these days. Maybe not always, but often. The few of us out there that know about the 547s really want them and will often pay premium, especially new or near new in the box.

There were about 6500 3" RBs made and about 3800 4" SBs (numbers rounded up a little). So while most everyone seems to want a 3" these days, the 4" models are more rare, with NIBs really owning the price market. I'd get one now while you can and if it seems a little high, remember this, S&W isn't making them anymore, and seems to have no plan to make more. I found a NIB here in Germany and paid $923, which is a good price for a NIB revolver here; everything in this country is super expensive these days. I think it would be a good deal even in the US; can't quite figure out how it got over here. I don't have physical possession of it, and will be interested to see if it has German proof marks, which would mean that S&W issued it to a dealer, if it doesn't have proof marks then it means another American probably sold it here. You cannot shoot a firearm in Germany if it isn't proofed by a German proof house.

There's a lot of mythology about the 547, who they were made for and why they were dropped. The dates alone will tell you the "wondernine" phenomena probably helped with the 547s demise. But one thing is certain, S&W had an interesting and well designed extraction system. Some say it's the "most expensive" to produce revolver S&W made, but I don't really believe that. I think it simply couldn't compete in the era of high capacity autos in the mid 80's but don't know that as a fact. I think it's one of the most unique K-frames made. I've got two, and want more!

Thanks, Mike. I quoted the BBGV price range. The rest of the data I gathered over the years from completed online auctions, online classifieds like GunsAmerica an on gun forums, as well as local gunshop prices when I came across them. The chart was created in Microsoft Excel.

Default My Model 547

I'm posting this yet again. This came from a factory employee who fitted a Model 19 recessed cylinder to it. I got a great deal. I think $800 to a $1000 would be a fair price to pay right now depending on the condition. They will always be worth that and will continue to increase in value as time goes on.

Hey Model 39, good to see that conversion again. I'm guessing the M19 cylinder has the standard extractors? I'm curious if there are any issues with the second pin although I'm guessing probably not. Do you shoot .357 Mag ammuntion through it often?

That is definately a keeper+, and I'm guessing those are maple grips on it. Sweet!

Interesting chart 5Wire, thank you.
I bet you are a financial trader used to Jap candelstick charts too.

Hopefully I should get a 3" model with its original box (unfortunatly no tools) today.

Price agreed with the seller is 800 € about $1,000

EDIT

I need quick info on the original cleaning/tool set for the 3 inch round butt 547 9mm and the 4 inch square butt: What is included in each? What are the differences between the 3" set and the 4" set? How are they packaged ? I have seen "standard S&W 4 inch cleaning sets" on line with the rod, brush, pad and screwdriver packaged in a clear 'plastic'-type bag . Are these one-in-the-same as those that came with the 547's? Thank you, Steve (sck547 Oct 7 2012)
