are these N frame Combats factory pieces??
These were for sale on another board and i was wondering if these are factory Combats. The seller says that they were removed and stored away when the gun was new. They look flat on the sides and the discs on the insides are shiney compared to all the others i have seen. there are no markings or date stamps either.
If aftermarket, who makes them??
thanks for any info!!

They look factory original to me. They are the later production though...the earlier 80's vintage had the rounded sides. I believe that the ones you have are from the early 90's.

They are factory. I am not aware of any aftermarket grips that use the steel stock circle inserts. These steel circles were used until the early 1990's.

OK...thanks for the help.
i was also expecting to see some date stamp or numbers in marker on the factory Combats. i've since looked at the "The best packin' stainless N-frames ever made?" thread and saw a few sets like that one.

The other gents answered your Q's correctly. I'll take these models for shooting any day of the week before the rounded models. Feel so much better in the hand and I can get a better grip using them. If I ever buy a SW with the older factry combats they come straight off. Not only ucomfortable with magnums, but also very expensive these days. Can't understand the extreme prices they're bringing, especially on N frames, when there are some nice custom grips out there for less money that fit my hand much better. The rounded combats don't come close to fitting my fingers and downright will draw blood at times from my 3" .41 mag. They sure do look pretty in photos though.

I think you answered your own question regarding the attraction to combat stocks - they look purty.
I also think there is a swing toward the "retro" look in place right now. People are taking the aftermarket stocks off their S&W revolvers and buying back checkered targets and combats like the ones they sold years ago. I'm guilty of it and just last week paid $125 for a nice pair of K-frame round-butt combats. Even though they weren't original equipment on it, they look stunning on my 2-1/2" Model 66-4.

I have that same 3" 657....and my all time favorite grips are the Factory Round Butt Combats....they are smooth, the grooves give me a great hold, and they are wide enough to absorb the recoil of even some hot 210gr SJSP loads.
If you don't like them, you can send them to me for adoption

Yes they are factory grips that, as Navarre said came on the 29-5 Classic 44 mags...
... if you get a chance to pick them up at a reasonable price they're always a buy.

I like the fit of these combats more so than the more rounded type. They came on both my 610 and 629 carrycomp.

To me they look like a 10 year old took a 2x4 and a butter knife and did the best they could to make grips. I'll happily replace them with rubber monogrips and $125.
Plenty love em but I don't get it.

I recently was given a pair of these and believed them to be N frame. I decided I had best double check should I decide to sell them.
I pulled out a 625-5 Mountain gun and the horns didn't come close to the backstrap. So I pulled out a round butt K frame and they're a perfect fit.
So, someone took a little time and created their own K frame combats? Or where these ever produced to fit the K frame in this configuration?
