image: Shooting down empty 12gauge shotgun shells
This weekend in southern Finland.
Was quite demanding even in single action and near-perfect conditions. Lighting was poor but there was NO wind and it was just below freezing point. And beer was plentiful.

Nice photo. What model revolver are you shooting? Obviously it's an accurate one!

It was an all-around excellent day. First 3 hours of practising FAST shotgun pulls against bowling pins and improvised targets, then relaxation with S&W 29-5. First me and my brother shot bowling pins, then bullseye, then dropped 12gauge shells from a plank. Our best row was 4 shotgun shells out of 5, typical was 2 or 3 (out of 5). The plastic shells endured practically no damage, too light for that. They just gave way to flatpoint and hollowpoint bullets.
I recommend shotgun shells as good targets for air rifles, air pistols and rimfire guns too. They're practically free, stand out from the background if red and react easily. Fill them with water for extra effect!
EDIT: corrected typos and added info.

29-5, silhouette version with 10.5" barrel and 4-position front sight. The one in my avatar image at the moment. I'm probably changing that for a 15-22 image soon :-) since 15-22 is just so much fun.

Use to do that with 9mm cases and a Mdl 17 .22 LR, but we was a whole bunch closer I can tell you for sure.
Now I couldn't even see one let alone hit one.
Your hitting those shotgun hulls at that range in the cold is some serious shootin'.

I tried that today with a 317 kitgun, but gave up because the wind would blow them over before I could take a bead on'em - were going try again tomorrow

Sounds like a good day my friend. Cold beer and pistols.
As long as it's not taken to excess, a very relaxing afternoon
of fun and practise.

You've got some serious winter there! I (we) have shot more this winter than ever before. There have been some decent days. Don't think that I could hit the elusive shotgun shells though. I am happy in the cold to hit all of the steel plates at 25 yards. Glad to see somebody brave the elements for a good day of shooting. Neat pic! Thanks! Bob

That is what I call a tough target to hit. Never tried it but will do so soon after you gave me the idea. I bet I cannot hit one out of 10.

That is awesome. Do you have any up close and personal pics of that beast? 4 position front sight intrigues me.

We've shot shells before. I knocked them all down with one shot...hit the board they were on.
Thanks for the pic, that's good shooting and in the cold.

We always take shotgun shells with us to the range and shoot them with .22's from about 20 yards....slow at first but once you figure out where to hold its a blast

Great shooting. The temp here has been between 50 and 70 degrees F for most of the winter. I feel your pain in all that cold and snow.
