Default Crimson Trace on a K Frame

Anyone using a Crimson Trace Laser on their 66 or 19 2.5 inch K Frame?

I know well the features of the laser and the button activation, wondering about the ergo/comfort of the grip more than anything.

Optics Planet has an online promotional email Program called Dvor.com.

They are limited time offers and I suspect they either liquidate samples or get manufacturer promotional support for a limited time on certain items they want to move.

One of today's offers was refurbished Crimson Trace: Good as New Sale.

I picked up a set of 305s, extended grip for a J Frame for $146 and a set of Hoghunter 308s that will work on a K or L frame for the same price.

I also picked up a Maxpedition Jumbo bag at a good price.

The Hoghunters I am going to put on my 66 but I think they will be a bit oversized so ultimately I think I will put them on my CS-1 for awhile.
This will be my 5th set of CTs. I have two sets of 405s on a 642 and 340 but always wanted to try the full grip version.

Maxpedition Jumbo w/CC set-up for $64, that's about the price CTD sells the knockoffs, like the ones at the gun shows.

DAdams, CT grips fit many model Smiths. There are different styles and sizes. Somebody at gun shows sells these, and has samples that you can handle and feel for fit. Find the 1 that is right for you, and buy it, or surf the net. I have 207's on my 10-8. They were $169, when I bought them 2 years ago. Good luck with your quest! Bob

I have them on my everyday carry gun, a 2.5" M66-2.

I like the feel & ergonomics of the grips.......

Ogy, that's the round butt version I'm guessing? How well do they work when firing magnums? Seems like they would bite a little in the button area. Overall, I like the way they look, and it seems like they would fit well with smaller hands. Seriously thinking about a M65 or M13 3" with those...

I have 405s on each of my J Frames. Always wanted some 305s if I decide to OWB the 340.

Thought I would try a set on my new 66.

I can always put them on my 686 if I don't like them.

No problem when firing the gun, no bite at all.

While I don't have any on a square frame myself, I did put some of the Hoghunter's
on a Sq Butt 686 that I gave to our son-in-law for Christmas a little over year ago.

I also sent that 686 to Pistolsmith, Teddy Jacobson for tuning up and when
I got it back I put it through it's paces with the Hoghunters on it and really liked the feel of 'em.
I know that if my sq butt 686 ever gets used in a self defense role I'm getting
some of those Hoghunter's for it. No doubt about it!

I have 207's on a 66-1 2.5 and a 629-6 Classic 5". I like them and expect to be trying some N frame "Hog Hunters" soon.

The only complaint I have is the softness of the activation switch spring on the grips. I wish they required a little more pressure to activate the laser.

They are a quality, useful product everyone should at least try....

Now I'm really interested. I have a LASERmax on a SIG P228, and while I really like it, it actually gets carbon on it from firing, being just below the muzzle. I like the OEM look of it, and in a real shooting event, it wouldn't matter as it would take quite a few rounds to cloud it to the point of ineffectiveness, but it has made me rethink the CT products. Obviously, it's the way to go for a revolver, especially like what I'm thinking, a K-Frame 3"RB in just about any cartridge. Interested to hear your comments in particular the Hoghunters. I'm curious, when you activate the switch, does it function as switch on/switch off, or is it a pressure activated/realease only? Doesn't matter, just curious. My SIG LASERmax is switch on/switch off and blinks, which I don't like, but has it's use. I think CT is a continuous beam?

It's pressure activated & goes off when released. I spend a lot of time outside at night and once in awhile practice Point Shooting, just Point Aiming actually, using trees, utility poles etc as my targets.

I'll usually draw & point, then activate the laser to confirm if I was on or not. It was pretty easy getting used to not activating the laser with the middle finger until needed. Many times I'll actually activate the laser and start pulling the trigger about the same time while raising my arm, turning the laser on just before breaking the shot (dry fire) as my arm reaches the top of it's movement.

If you see post #13 in the thread below you will see why I rely on lasers in general, and Crimson Trace in particular.

You don't have to sell me, got used to using similar devices in the military and I now consider red dot/LASERs as pretty important for self defense/reflex shooting. When the Army first issued Aimpoints on M4/M16s, like most oldtimers I was resistant until I saw qual scores improve immediately and easily for my soldiers and myself. Also, the military uses an infra-red device that's similar to a LASER, only you can't see it without NVGs, and at night they are incredibly effective, in fact, I once qualified expert at night with just an Aimpoint and a PVS-14, couldn't believe it. Similar concept, different device, same results; improved effectiveness.

I do the same as you with my SIG, it's also a great way to practice trigger control and plane sighting for hard sights as it gives feedback on jerking and bad aiming for regular sights. When I was in Iraq, units were actually buying these for M9s, and I was pretty impressed with results, only problem was the extreme light there during daylight, but in the evening and darkness, the advantage became very apparent. Seems to me they would work even better with revolvers due to the difference it grip design/size. By the way, nice 66!!!

Thanks for posting your experience.
Many simply believe that they are nothing more than a gimmick.....

Thanks on the 66!
It's one of my constant companions, and, since it's been worked by Pistolsmith,
Teddy Jacobson, it shoots even better than it looks!!

Sure thing Ogy, and always glad to make a new friend.

Red dots and LASERs are no gimmik. I had to go and look at CTs website after this exchange and will be ordering a set of RB K/L frame grips this week. Take a new look at their website and you will note that they have Military standard grips, that means that it meets a standard to be issue, and the military does not issue junk these days when it comes to CQB and small arms. Reflex firing is no joke, I've done plenty of it, and iron sights just don't cut it anymore, or at least so says the Army. However, it is imperative that iron sight (backup sight) training always be continued in the event of light or battery failure. I was always amazed at how you could turn mediocre shooters into very good shooters with red dots and LASERs. It also gives one a big edge over those that don't have such equipment, something one always wants in defensive/reflexive shooting. And I can't help but add as I always harp on it...one must train, train, train.

Recently I took my SIG to the range and tried some of my old Army drills with it at some different ranges and was very impressed; I've had this on my SIG for a few years, but have not been shooting with it that much (they are not popular here in Germany, and actually illegal to hunt with). I am very interested to see them at work on a good old K-frame.

Ogy,

I'm a little confused here, maybe you can help. Your grips are exactly what I am looking for; when I went to S&Ws shop, they sell "hoghunter" grips like you referenced, but all photos are the same no matter RB, SB, N frame, K/L frame or whatever, and it's at an angle. On CTs website, they do not reference the "hoghunter"...what is that exactly? The "L-306" is apparently what I want on my 619 and what you have on your fine lookin' 66. So far, I haven't even seen a rubber grip that looks as good as that, and it appears that it has a similar contour than my combat, finger groove Ahrend's, which fit better than any revovler grip I've ever owned.

One potential issue; I may not be able to get these shipped to Germany. I often run into this problem; it's a customs issue. I already know S&W will not ship them, and I have a query to CT about it. There are legal issues with them over here, but I know I shipped my LASERmax over here successfully, so it may just be finding the right outfit.

How is recoil with magnums? I really only shoot 158 gr SJHPs and SJSPs, nothing exotic. I am not recoil sensitive, just curious if it seems worse, better, the same than stock grip panels. It should be a little easier for me with a 4" barrel L-frame, but that's a pretty subjective assumption.

Sure hope CT will ship!!!

It appears that the "HH" series includes the models 307, 308 for K and L frames square and round respectively. And includes the N series 314 and 314.
Laser Sight for Smith & Wesson K L Frame Round Butt LG-308 | Crimson Trace Lasergrips

The HH appears more like a round to square conversion.

The 306 more closely match the frame and are trimmer for CC.
I hope you are successful in getting a set.

DAdams, my L.G. 207 box is right by me, and it states that they will fit K,L, & N frames. Also states round or square Butt. Bob

Yes indeed. 207 are on the CT site and fit K, L, N.
They are the hard polymer according to CT.
I've never tried the polymers. Do you have a preference rubber vs poly?

DA, I have never compared the 2. The poly 207's fit well in my hand and feel good. They work for me, but everyone is different. Bob

Thanks gentlemen. Looks like the L-306 will be my choice; I prefer the rubber as poly is a little too slippery for me. I think that's what Ogy has on his if I'm not mistaken. Just curious why S&W calls them hoghunters and if they have the equivalent of the L-306; I'm guessing that the K/L round butt HHs are the L-306 since the description sounds right. I like that the CTs from the S&W shop have the S&W logo, but can live without it, plus, S&W will not ship to me over here, however, I could buy them and have someone send them to me.

CT makes great lasers. I have fired them on the J-frames and they have been great. The battery life is pretty good and grip is actually comfortable. The CT lasers on some guns like Glocks add extra thickness.

You are correct sir, LG-306's on the M66 & the two other guns shown below.

What Ogy is showing is the CT306. It is the "slimmed" down version for concealed carry.

The 306 is NOT the Hoghunter.

The Hoghunter in the rubber version for the K and L frame and is the CT 308. Go to the CT Website and see the difference. Both the 306 and 308 fit the K&L Roundbutt, but, they are different!

I didn't even think to look. I've ordered from Optics Planet before, they can be a little slow, but that's no real issue for me. I'll check; sometimes it's a customs issue, so maybe they won't be able to either, but would be nice if they can. Thanks for the point!

Thanks to Ogy, also!

Optics Planet's Dvor Online recently had a Crimson Trace sale on Refurbished (Demo) Models. I bought a set of 308 (Hoghunters) and a set of 305s for a J frame. $146 per set. I couldn't tell either set from new other than they didn't come in the original box. The sticker in the grips on the 308s said 2010. Came with the normal stuff, two batteries, swabs, allen wrenches and laser labels. I had them on in a matter of minutes and a perfect fit. The on off switch works; as does the grip switch.

They feel great with lots to grab on to. They aren't much to look at but I am a believer and long time user of the Crimson Trace Grips on a couple of J Frames and a Kahr PM9. They do wonders for point shooting as long as all other appropriate and necessary skill sets are kept in the mix and in tune.

Here are some 66 2.5 inch K Frame pictures.

Looking forward to a range trip to get them dialed in.

Roundgunner:

I have the same 627 PC revolver and was thinking of getting the Crimson Trace grips. Which model should I get? I am assuming I should get the LG-314 (Laser Sight for Smith & Wesson N Frame Round Butt LG-314 | Crimson Trace Lasergrips). Also, did you have to sight/adjust the beam? Thanks in advance for your response!

Update on shipping (for anyone that cares), OpticsPlanet will ship to my APO, and my LG-306s are on the way!
