I bought these grips back in the late 80's or early 90's. Does anyone know who made them. I'm thinking Altamont, but not sure. No name inside.

Can't help you with the maker but they are definitely cool.

I'm not sure who they have make them but S&W sells those grips. You can see them at their online store, look for "Laser Etched Grips".

Looks like a set of Altamonts made for S&W. My 3" 629 came with a set like that and drew blood within two cylinders. Work much better on a .357.

They definately have the look of Altamonts. That particular scrimshaw design is not in Altamont's current online catalog, but Altamont is famous for doing special runs for distributors and large grip dealers. They are unusual and prolly valuable beyond normal more common grips of like kind.

Most all of Altamonts stuff is CNC machined and or laser etched/engraved, so it's simply a matter of writing a program rather than employing a master craftsman. Not to say that Altamont stuff is second rate, their stuff is top notch and quality is superb while keeping costs low.
