S&W also made the 620, the L-Frame version of the M66, but sadly, it's gone too.
There's one you dont see often. I have a couple 620's, and would love a 619. Ive seen exactly one for sale in the past three year.

It's great to see the Model 65 getting some love recently in several threads. Here's a 65-6 that I bought from a Forum member. Note the frame mounted firing pin on this heavy barrel model.

Massachusetts State Police pinned and recessed three inch Model 65-2

With a three inch 65-5 and .... wait, how did that 13-3 get in here?

The Model 65 is a 'Just Right' gun. Not too big but not too small. Not to heavy, but not too light.

Fixed but well regulated sights that wont snag or be easily damaged. Handles and points like an extension of your arm with the right grip.

Handles it all from shotshells and light .38 Special target loads to fire breather .357 Magnums.

I guess there's a reason some threads keep getting brought back from the dead.
For some reason the 65 has never been a model that I've particularly noticed before, probably because I like the looks of a classic Smith with adjustable sights. Anyway, a week or two ago this 65-3 showed up on GunBroker and it was being sold on consignment from a store located only 20 miles from me. It had an ugly black Pachmayr grip and was in definite need of a good cleaning. I was able to win it for $385 + tax, so how do you pass up a deal like that?
When picking it up after the 3-day waiting period the store clerk told me that after the auction ended another (local, I think) guy called and was bemoaning the fact that he had intended to bid up to $450 on it but fell asleep. A literal case of "you snooze, you lose", eh?
On tearing it down I found the internals were clean but very dry. I polished a few mating surfaces lubed everything and put it back together. In single action it has a consistent, crisp 3lb 8oz trigger pull. The pictured Pachmayr Renegade grip was sitting in a drawer, so the black rubber got swapped out for this one. One day hopefully I can determine why this dash-3 model has a round butt with a 4" barrel, but for now it's just purty to look at and shoot.

Here is my Model 65-3 with 3" barrel. Slightly modified Ahrends (Moradillo retro combats?) grips, and an older Bianchi Cyclone convertible crossdraw/strong side holster.

Do a 64 and 66 make two 65s?

I just haven’t found a decent deal on a 3” 65.

My Model 65-1:
1. After I got it.
2.&3. After I got new grips. It's my EDC.

I had an early 3 inch until it was stolen 23 years ago. If anyone finds one with a script KAH on the bottom of the trigger guard, I'll be glad to buy it back.

I've had my Model 65-8 for almost a month now. It shipped in 2005. Came with Uncle Mike's stocks but I have put magna's on it. Still have yet to shoot it; too cold to clean in my shed so maybe next month - late.

Found this several years ago, before the prices went completely crazy. I still paid far, far too much for it ($425), but I had to have it. I think I did okay, it's probably worth a bit more now.

The factory stocks came with it, I added the T-Grip.

I found this model 65-5 round butt several years ago. Some one tweeked the action, bead blasted the finish, polished the area of the cylinder and milled serrations on the back strap. Very smooth double actions. Shipped August 2007

Here is my 65-2. I installed color cased hammer and trigger with a mild action job. The trigger pull is beautiful. Also shown with her cousin, a 13-3.

I found this 65-5 this past week at a pawn shop. I’m thinking seriously about buying a stainless hammer and trigger for it. Some nice open back combat stocks too.

I’ve got a couple model 65s. First is my model 65-1. Came with the original serialized grips which made me pretty happy. Has UCPD stamped on it. Since it came out of California I assume that’s University of California PD, unless someone has another idea. Second is my 65-5 ladysmith that I use as my EDC until I get my 13-3 this week.

In 1981, I wanted something S&W didn't make at the time. I wanted a fixed sight, stainless steel K frame revolver with a round butt and approximately 3 inch barrel.

I picked up a model 65-1 4 inch, and got together with a gunsmith in Hayward, CA. He cut back the barrel to 3 1/4 inch to retain the full script on the barrel. He match recrowned the barrel, and installed a red insert in the front sight. He then rounded the butt, installed a model 66 hammer and trigger, and did and incredible action job on it.

I carried it for two years before the agency allowed us to carry semi-auto pistols. I have kept this custom pistol ever since, and it is still one of my favorite revolvers to shoot.

Same 65-3 as already shown. Just a new photo and change of grips that I did a couple of days ago.

Here's my 65-3 which I think I've posted before. The 65-3 has gotten to a cult status since I got this back in 1987. It was a retirement gift from my agency, and new at the time. Wish I'd kept the box.
