Default Received S&W 10

I received my S&W model 10-8 today from Bud's. I have spent some time cleaning it and I am very happy with my purchase. I almost purchased it for $259. (LEO) last month but I was not in a rush so I won it on Bud's website auction for $243.
As you will see in the pictures , it has a lot of holster wear and the grips are very well worn too. Lucky for me there was no rust. But not to worry, I have Hogue rubber grips and they are now installed.
Is there a chart or website I can go to to find the year it was manufactured by the S#?

Having problems uploading pictures. Every time I try it fails.

Post the serial number, we'll get you in the ballpark as far as date manufactured.
Congrats on the pick up.

An interesting note:
I took the the grips off and written on the inside of one of them is:
Still here 30-1-04

and then another date:
GONE 8/07

SerialL #AAY7157
DOB looks like Nov 1982

You may want to pick up the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, it has tons of info about anything made by S&W.

S&W10-8 with original wooden grips and now with Hogue grips.
I purchased this revolver to use at my house in NC for snakes, but it is such a beauty (even with all the holster wear) I will now bring it back and forth with me.

My 10-8 from Bud's is 1981. Oddly enough my grips were in very good condition! Well, it wears C.T. #207 Laser Grips now. Good shooter. I see that you left your VPA Sticker on. (Victoria Police Armory) It is small, but neat! Enjoy it! You can't get more Bang for Your Buck! Bob

That's a lot of gun for that much money!

Congrats!

I was wondering about that date format, then I saw the sticker too. Congrats, I'm hem hawing about one of Bud's Model 10's or Robertsons Model 64's for a full size revolver.

I ordered one from Bud's today. You really can't go too wrong at that price.

Nice gun you got. Mine's "in shipping" now.
BTW, those wooden stocks look like Aussie-made replacements. Original S&W ones would have medallions.

Last night I was bored and sanded the wooden grips that came with my gun(since they were really worn). I stained it with Miniwax Gunstock. They came out pretty good. Tomorrow I will put them back on the gun and post new pictures.
I thought of going to the S&W website and ordring new grips with the medallions but couldn't justify the expense.
Maybe later.

Mine went to shipping today too. They are pretty back logged. My wife ordered a .22 beretta from them. Gun was in shipping 5 days before it actually shipped.

Default My Mod 10-6 HB Damn good $199 gun

I love my Mod 10-6 Has Safariland grips ( as purchased) Minimal holster wear Touched up with Van's cold blue. Still has charactor. I shoot cast 38 WC ( H & G # 50 4 cavity iron mold) with 3.2 to 3.8 grain Unique( I know Bullseye is the classic powder ) Bullets drop at 146 g with 20-1 or 16-1 alloy. The trigger is sweeter than sorgum malasses. My 657 trigger is alittle better Not much I carry it(Mod 10) in a Smart holster( deep concelment) I use 130g Winchester +p Just a great simple tool Oh yes Fixed sights dead on at 9 yrd defence range

Good for you! Glad you like your M10. I got a 3" SB from Bud's and really like it. I left the sticker on mine too - and I'm careful not to rub it off when I clean it.

You just can't go wrong with that deal.

I just got the M10-11 from Buds. Hardly any holster wear. Has the Victorias sticker and original wood grips too. I am so pleased with it I ordered a M34-6 from GB.

Over the weekend, I ordered a set of Altamont RB boot grips, rosewood, Smith medallions. Around $61 delivered. UPS says I should have them by Friday. My $28 Bianchi Accumold duty holster arrived yesterday from Optics Planet. I'll be stylin' old-school by the end of the month.
I'm very happy with my Bud's purchase!

I sanded down the grips and restained them and have a holster to wear at my house in NC. I purchased this gun solely for snake shooting in NC, but it handles so good I might consider another S&W revolver in the future.

The Aussie's as well as many European countries (including the U.K.) reverse the month and day when writing the date shorthand.

I use to work for a U.S. subsidiary for an Australian company and it would drive me crazy. The only thing worse was the fact that every document they e-mailed was sized for A4 paper.

Default Aussie Arrived Today

My latest VPA Model 10 arrived today. This one's a 10-11 dating to 1999. A bit of a surprise as my last VPA was a 10-5 from 1975.
This is my first MIM Model 10. I know the purists will cringe, but the lockwork is smooth as warm butter and I have never had MIM part fail. Its a working gun, not a safe queen.
Came to me in a plain brown M&P 40 box. Wearing the nastiest rubber grips I've ever seen. Took them off in the store and threw them away then and there.
Overall condition is very servicable. Usual character marks and holster rubs. Couple light rust spots under the rubbers.
Getting it home, first order of business (after imaging) was to remove the sideplate and give everything the obligatory KROIL soakdown. Inner workings were pristine as was the bore. The rust spots cleaned off completely with bronze wool after the KROIL soak.

AFTER:
