ANS helps to approximate when the gun was made, but the Special Order code makes it specific - the 21st day of 1987. The Product Code is specific to the configuration of the gun, like model, barrel length and features. Hope this is helpful.

Product code 104231 is 2 1/2" S (stainless finish) RB (round butt) CT (combat trigger) RR (red ramp insert front sight) 1987-01 production run. ANS would have been one of the last of the dash 1 as far as I can tell, meaning 1987. I don't know how to trace Spec. ord. 7021...might have to call Smith.

I see 7021 has been defined while I was posting!

Wow that was fast! Thanks for the responses. That's exactly what I wanted to know. What exactly is the Combat trigger?
