Am I stupid or just foolish?
I recently agreed to pay a friend $650 for 2 revolvers.
a model 36-1 with 3" barrel, round butt and original grips
a model 10 with 4" barrel and Pachmar's.
both were carried by a Madison police officer for years and have a fair amount of holster wear but never shot much.
they haven't been cleaned for 10-15 years
was I a little too impulsive??

If they are in decent shooter condition (pics would help), I would say you did fine. If they are better than shooter, you did well IMHO.
By Madison, do you mean Madison, WI?

As long as they're mechanically sound, I'd've bought them for that price, too. Nice finds...

Ditto. Its pretty hard to do better than $300-$350 each for a couple of good mechanically sound shooter grade S&W revolvers. You can hardly go wrong on one at that price IMO.

Seems like a fair price, the value being in the Model 10.

I believe the 3" J frames are kind of a hot ticket lately. With out seeing them I would guess you saved at least $200 on retail?

Not knowing more but assuming that both revolvers function, as you know, you did well.

Not sure what is's worth, but my favorite revolver is my 36-1. The extra weight and barrel length make a big difference compared to my 442.

The correct answer is "(D) Neither (A) nor (B) above."

You bought two functional and classic S&W revolvers for a fair price so your neither. Now if you had passed on both and then suffered nightly from the remorse of letting them get away , THEN you might have done something foolish like overpaying for your next two or three S&W revolvers ..... Ask me how I know :-)

Congrats, I would have done that if mechanically right. You could get much better info if you posted pictures. Besides that, we like pictures! Bob
