Well they tell me they don't make them like they used to so I went for an older S&W. I started this quest of learning about the Model 52 back in May by starting a thread on the Semi Auto forum titled 'I need an education on the Model 52' and it took off like wildfire with excellent input..................Well the passion continued and here is the 52-2 that I just acquired, built approximately 1979 and have now found out one of our forum members was the builder of my gun at that time!
Here is my little gem:
Just got it, haven't shot it but I will tell you that the trigger is incredible!

I have a 4" 686-6 that I picked up brand new for $690 out the door during the Louisiana 2nd amendment tax holiday last September. It's my first revolver and I'm absolutely in love with it. I understand that the older generations may be of a higher quality and lack one certain feature but for the price I paid I am completely satisfied. It also has no trouble ringing an 8" gong @ 100 yards.

My new R8.... Super smooth double action, crisp break and so beautiful...... Sporting an RMR and a set of G10 grips from Hogue..... Funny thing... I looked for a year and a half until I found this one at a random, first time stop at a gun shop I'd never been to before.... Was there again this past week and saw 2 more... One new and one used..... Almost went for the used one.... Love this pistol!

Picked up a M66 2.5" and a M640 2.5" both are excellent shooters. The 640 is now my EDC.

My last two purchases/trades were a LNIB, 2012 Model 41 (see pic) and a NIB, Model 642 without the IL (which I made an even trade for of a Shield 9mm-see pic). I also picked up a model 52 for my Bullseye club...very accurate.
Let me explain the trade. I had 3 Shields, one was NIB and I don't know why I bought it. Got a very good price and the rebate. Another gentleman wanted the Shield, I wanted the 642, so we made an even trade. Both of us were happy with the transaction. I am even going to give him the two mags that come with the rebate and I will keep the other stuff.

Bought about spring 2016 360J Airweight snub 38+P. No QC or IL issues. Shoots great. Had it out about 10 times. Only changed grips to S&W boot grips for better concealment. Fall 2017 new m41 not so reliable

My most recent purchase was a model 69 2.75" .44 magnum. It's beyond what I expected. Very accurate and solid. Will use it as an edc with only .44 special ammo. The only thing I didn't like was that it was advertised with white outline rear sights. Not the case. I ordered a set from S&W and they said that they are on back order and no date given when they will have them. I bought HIVIZ fiber optics for the front.

My first and last .44 gun because I'm just a .38spl kind of guy.
Nonetheless the quality, bluing and aesthetics are absolutely breathtaking.

I only own 2 newer smith revolvers, one being a model 69 and even if it aint as pretty as my old smiths, its my favorite 44. Easy to pack and it shoots as good as i could ever hope for.

Grabbed a new 442 and 45 Shield Performance Center last week during the Smith and Wesson sale at my PX. The 442 in my pocket allows me to stay in good graces with my better half, she gets her LCR back full time now. The PC 45 Shield was an impulse buy at the price. After 280 rds of fmj and assorted hollow points, I purchased a couple holsters for it to compliment my 686+ as my edc. Somewhere after Christmas I'll spring for the Wright Leatherworks iwb Holster for the Shield that I have for my 686. The 45PC is way nicer than the original 9mm Shield I had before the price crash. It's that little bit bigger that fits my hand better, and the improved grip is nice too. Free mags and ammo are just a nice touch for down the road

I purchased a Shield 9mm. It isthe second Shield that I have owned. I sold the first one. I had issues with the slide locking up due to the guide rod being very particular about how it must be aligned. I replaced it with a one piece guide rod from ssguiderods.com. I also added Talo wrap around rubber grips and put Pearce grip extensions on all of my magazines, even the 8 round. I’m happy to say that i have the “bugs” worked out and the pistol feels great in my hands with the 8 round mags and grip extensions. I am very confident that the Shield will make an excellent and reliable ccw piece. This coming from a die-hard “no tupperware” revolver guy.

I suppose you meant NIB when you said, "NEW" as opposed to New-to-me.
Is so, too bad, because this one's close.
a 5" 629-6 with all accessories. I suspect, like many .44 mags, the owner made it through a box of ammo, if that much, then sold it. Very clean and very nice. I put a couple 100 rounds through it and then sent it to Mag-n-Port. Am working on new grips for it now. I may load up some .44 spl and run it in competition just for the fun of it.

In the 3 months it took to get the required paperwork to buy a handgun here in Canada I was all over the map with trying to decide what to buy. Eventually I kept coming back to S&W because the only other handguns I have owned, 3 in number, were all S&W revolvers.
On Friday I finally made a decision and put a deposit on a Model 327 TRR8 at the local gun shop. I even got a very good price on it that is the same as the MSRP in USD. Next time you are complaining about the price of guns check out what we pay in Canuck Bucks.

I bought my first ever NIB S&W revolver a few weeks ago. A 4"617. After taking about five pounds off the DA trigger with a trigger job I could not be happier.

Bought a new 640 about 18 months ago. Once I found the right set of grips and a proper holster for it, it became a regular EDC weapon. Carries nicely and shoots quite well. Mission accomplished.

Bought a '69 30-1 for around the farm "bigger than a .22" kit gun type use. Love it, and the kids are learning to shoot it pretty well also. For actually new stuff, just traded a Kel-Tec P-11 in on a brand new M&P 9c. Only a few boxes through it, but really like it so far. Not much bigger than the KT, but so much nicer to shoot. Reliable so far, and accurate. No complaints from me!

Bought a LNIB 686-5 (4 inch) from a friend about 6 months ago. Great shooter! Also NIB 442 snubby in May as my EDC. Love it! Several hundred rounds so far with zero problems. Most recently a S&W MP 2.0 in 9mm because a wanted a higher capacity 9 mm semi for my "House" gun than the SA XDS that I have. I really love all of these, plus the 620 SW I bought several years ago, and I have had zero problems with any of my S&W guns.

442 (Model 178034) from the Performance Center with factory action work. Easy to carry in an ankle holster with excellent trigger and mechanics. Folks at the range always ask about it since they mainly see "black" semiautos.

I own a 627 Pro which I am very happy with. And I also own 6 model 27's in the various barrel lengths. 5 of them are 27-2 models and the 6th is a 27-5 model. And after changing out the mainspring on the 627 Pro (light DA strikes with the stock spring) and changing the rebound slide spring to a lighter one I find that it shoots as well as my older guns. Looks are another thing, in that the older guns have the beautiful checkered top strap and the 627 Pro has a plain top strap and I'm not a big fan of the slab side barrel, but I wanted an 8 shot N frame revolver and the 627 Pro delivers. And it's trigger feels comparable to the older guns. The lock hole is an eyesore that I would rather not have, but has given me no problems whatsoever. I also think a fine nickel or blue finish is prettier than stainless steel, but that is personal preference and doesn't affect functionality.
With all that said, if S&W would make an 8 shot model 27 with a 4 or 5" traditional half lug barrel and finished in nickel (my preference) or blue, I would buy it in a heartbeat and think about selling the 627 Pro.

I really had a tough time deciding between a new Smith and Wesson and an older one. The last Smith and Wesson I bought was a Model 18 that I got used in the late 70's. Back then we really did not care much about when a gun was made so I have no idea when it left the factory. I also bought a brand new Model 28 in the mid 70's. And the third one I owned was likely an early version of the Victory model that had been sleeved and rechambered by Parker-Hale to 38 Special.
I would love to have all 3 of those guns back but there are usually no do overs on that sort of thing.
So what I am right now is a 65 year old who has not owned a Smith and Wesson since the mid 80's when I sold all three of those guns. My natural inclanation was to simply buy a good used gun. Then I got thinking that since it is 2017 maybe I ought to try a new one. I will find out when I finally get to shoot it if I find it a better gun than those old ones (realizing of course that I can barely remember shooting them). The one thing I know is that it will never have the double action feel of that old long stroke gun. But then I seldom shoot a revolver without cocking it anyway.

I've seen a few I would buy if they didn't have the ugly lock hole. Why didn't they hide it? If I didn't have to look at it I would disable it and move on. I saw the guns with plugs but they didn't look that good. I'll stick with the older stuff.

Bought a 442-1 last week and shot it on Saturday. I have a 36 no dash from my dad who passed away in 2010, but I’ve let my father in-law shoot it for now. Love em both, but would like a new 66 too.

I bought my first gun last week online and visited it yesterday as I have to wait 3 days to get it. It was beautiful. I am going for training very soon. I work in home health care in all neighborhoods and there are certain situations although careful in which I do not feel safe. Especially with the Antifa noise. I think I got a good price $349 for a moonclip 442 Performance center Pro. I am proud of finally becoming a gun owner.

I liberated this 460 XVR from waiting period jail last week, and after installing the Nill grips, took it to the range for the first time yesterday. I found it absolutely magnificent in every respect. The .45 LCs feel like shooting a .22, the 454 Casulls get your attention, and the 460s... well, let's just say they cleared my sinuses right out.
Not exactly a sensible choice for beginners, but the gun is more than manageable for experienced shooters, and it's a total blast... pun definitely intended!

Just picked up this 627 PC on Saturday.

When 15 9mm is not enough!
627 2.jpg
Aside from a small nick on the grip, no problem. Have a NIB 586 L Comp on the way that I bought from a fellow forum member. I'll do a QC report when that comes in.
BTW how do you guys get the large pics to post?!

Last week, after thinking it over for two months, I bought the most expensive .22LR revolver known to man. Yes, I bought a 617-6. My friends thought I was crazy for spending that much on a .22 revolver. Well I took it to the range last Saturday, and fell head over heals in love with that gun. It is without a doubt my favorite revolver of all time. It functioned flawlessly and ate every brand of .22 ammo I had. It’s the 4” model and it is incredibly accurate. Factory trigger pull was far better than expected. I own 13 revolvers and 5 of them are S&W. I thought I loved my PC 627-5. This is my new favorite. I know it will go in my range bag every time.

Picked up this NIB 438 last week and I'm really liking it. I have wanted a Bodyguard for a long time and finally made up my mind to buy one.

My new 686+ 2.5" barrell
Just purchased a brand new 686+ and absolutely love it. First 7 rnds thru it and I could cover all 7 with a half dollar. Naturally the action is smooth as butter just as you would expect from a S&W revolver. Now looking for a new 629.

If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!
I used to collect strictly HK pistols. Last year I bought my first modern S&W, the 686+ PC snubby, and all my gun purchases since the hen have been S&W revolvers.
I’m tempted by the 629 Hunter of 629 Stealth Hunter next.

What are the grips on each of those? That middle one really looks good with those grips. I got a 686 around Thanksgiving and I’m shopping for grips right now.

The 640 Pro on top has Karl Nill standard grain walnut grips for centennial J frames.
The 686+ PC snubby in the middle has Kim Ahrends tactical grips in cocobolo wood. I highly recommend them! Very comfortable in the hands.
The 686 Competitor has Karl Nill premium grain walnut grips.

A litttle over a month ago, I bought a 30 year old Model 65-3 revolver from my sister-in-law. The gun was originally owned by my father-in-law and then passed to my brother-in-law when my father-in-law died. My brother-in-law passed away almost 2 years ago and the .357 was more gun than my sister-in-law was comfortable using.
As you can imagine, I have a strong sentimental attachment to the gun. But, beyond that, I've found the 65-3 3-inch to be an outstanding handgun and have begun carrying it as my "winter" EDC. I am amazed how easily the k-frame revolver can be concealed OWB. (Ok, I admit to being a semi-auto guy who never tried to concealed carry a revolver.) Anyway, I'm thrilled to have the revolver and will pass it to my sons when the time comes that I can no longer use it...(Hopefully a long time from now!)

I think some people are missing the point of this thread.
Unless I am seriously mistaken this thread is supposed to be about NEW S&W products - not about your latest purchase of a used gun.
There are 2 or 3 other threads about "your latest purchase" - for guns that are new to YOU.
Just sayin'...

I’m glad you started this thread. I got my first S&W revolver in 1981, a beloved 6” nickle Model 57. It was stolen when I moved to “the big city” from the farm to go to college, and having lived in the same city until recently, I’d been out of guns since then.
I’m now back at the farm a lot, having moved closer to the farmstead finally, and recently acquired a 1978 nickle 8 3/8” Model 57 and a 1982 nickle 6” Model 29.
I have always been a devoted large-caliber S&W revolver guy, but having read all the issues with the newer models continually it seemed, having a disdain for the IL and the cut-down cylinder release, and liking the older royal-blue bluing (even though I am a nickle or stainless guy) rather than the newer blacker-finish, I had written off the newer pieces except for the 460 and 500.
However, this thread has opened my eyes. I am glad to hear there are some good things still coming out of the factory, and you guys are pleased with the newer models as well!
I have to admit I hate the finish on the grips of the new “Classic” models - they look like fake wood to me - but that could be easily remedied and it sounds like there is no reason to disdain the newer pieces for me any longer.
In fact, I like the way some of the new pieces look, and with a Hogue Extended Release on them...they look quite trick!
I can see a 460VR with one of those added in my future. I’m sure the compensator and shroud are not falling off as many of them as I seem to have read about.
Once again, no one likes to write about the plane that flies - only the plane that crashes.
So thank you for opening my eyes, but damn you, too - you probably just cost me $1800!

My last two S&W purchases were both 629's. Picked them up about a year ago.
629 Classic 5"
629 PC Stealth Hunter
Very happy with both of them.

I just picked up a brand new 637-2...
It is perfect in every which way! So perfect, I almost don't want to shoot it!
Great timing, perfect lock up, straight barrel. Fit and finish, flawless!

Last year I bought two Smiths at the same time off GB. A 686 plus and a 629. 686 was outstanding right out of the box. Perfect in all respects. Now, the 629 had lots of issues. Canted barrel and one of the worst triggers I have felt in a Smith. Off to the mother ship and repairs were completed. 4 to 5 week round trip. 629 is now perfect.

I recently purchased a S&W MP9 Pro with 5 inch barrel and absolutely love it. I'm not certain why however I shoot it better than my Glock 17 and 26, Dan Wesson Valor 45 and Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. It just feels so comfortable in the hand and the front green FO sight is so easy for my 69 year old eyes to pick up.

My new 327 PC snubbie has really grabbed my fancy. Picked it up last week and finally got to the range and put some .38 Sp. and .357 through her. Just a really nice package, very smooth trigger right out of the box. And did I mention how light the gun is? Will probably become my cooler weather EDC once I decide on a holster and put a few more rounds through her.

I found a Model 69 4.25 inch in a gun store I frequent about three weeks ago. Since acquiring it, I've replaced the internal lock, added Altamont grips, and shot a little over 200 rounds through it. I also picked up a Galco Combat Master holster as well as a couple of HKS speed loaders (the ones for the Charter Arms Bulldog .44 work great). While it might not be the most concealable gun for daily wear, it is very versatile for around the ranch, especially when loaded with shot rounds for the vermin emerging with the warmer weather.

A 686+ 3" and a BG38 last month. The 686+ shoots better than the 686+4" I traded in. The BG38's grip is too small (Hogue on order) and the batteries were dead. Other than that it seems lake a great little gun.
