Default If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

That's it - tell us about your good new purchases. Sadly, we hear about the less than satisfactory QC examples... how about the good ones?

I'll start off with my last new purchase - 9/11 - a 632 Pro. Initially shocked that it hit low with the wimpier ammo from 7-12 yd, I found that it was designed for a combat sight picture at those distances shooting real .327 Federal Magnum ammo - 115gr Speer Gold Dots, for example. It was on the money! Great trigger - unreal grouping at 7-12 yd. Super pleased - even if they forgot the IL!

How about you folks?

Yup got a few, love my new 329pd and my 317kitgun, they are both perfect. I have bought 6 or 7 new smiths in the past couple of years and they all are fantastic revolvers. I couldn't be happier

I bought two new S&Ws last year. One 627 UDR and a E series 1911 Sc. Both are perfect. I am confident in Smiths current products. I know quality control may not be what it used to be, but at least they respond to issues.

Three for me in the last 8 months.

A M632-2 & two M638's, one of which I gave to my son.

I've bought 3 686's, 629, 57MG, 19, 642, 642 CT, 2M&P's, 1911PD, 908S, 6906, a M&P rifle and a few others, I'm sure have slipped my mind in the last couple of years. One 686 went back for a timing issue and was fixed and returned in around 10 days. I say that's a good QC record, I would also say it's a large enough sample size to cast doubt for me on claims of people consistently getting bad guns from S&W.

I had a M500 in 4 inch, the only issue I had was that I underestimated the power of the 500 in a short barrel. The gun functioned flawlessly, and the fit and finish were excellent. After awhile the novelty kind of worn off, I might have kept it if it were 8 3/8". I had and still have a FA 454, that's a handful as well, but not quite as much as the 500.
Now I'm ready to buy a 627UDR, as soon as I can find one locally.
Admittedly I don't care for the placement of the IL, if they hid it under the grips it would be fine with me, and the MIM parts are moot. I have other guns with MIM and the triggers are sweet.

Edit: I forgot, duh! Bought 2 M442's, 2 M642'S, 1 M38-3, 1 M37-2 , the only one with an issue was a 642 where the frame cracked. S&W replaced it under warranty, in less than 10 days, even though I was not the original owner. The gun was about 12 yo.

I just purchased a 625 jm and absolutely love it! Last year I bought a 29-10 classic series and have great luck with it. I also purchased a .500 magnum 4inch and was very satisifed with the quality of workmanship.

I picked up my first revolver the S&W 629 V-Comp in November '11 and I couldn't be happier. I am still amazed at the trigger on this thing. I own 2 other Smiths a 1911 and M&P 15 that I've had for a few years and have been completely satisfied with them.

Had a LGS order me a new 22-4 about 2 yrs ago. Had some doubts about the IL, MIM parts and skinny li'l stocks, but with some proper wood, I really like this piece - even more than my various 1917s over the years. Shoots a mite low with factory AR 230gr RNL, but with 250gr SWCs at about 950 - well, it might as well be a .45 Colt !
My first new S&W since my 13-2 about 25 yrs ago.

Within the last year a 640-1, 63 and a 67, all new from the factory. No complaints, very satisfied with the quality and workmanship.

625PC .45ACP Performance Center. Beautiful gun, a practical work of art. I'll be buying more. As much as I enjoy reading and learning from the various firearm forums, I have come to the conclusion that those who post their issues and rants far outweigh those who take the time to say good things. Just like work, tends to place less emphasis on praise and recognition, and more about what went wrong, what could be improved, whose fault it was, etc. Boils down to human nature and how we're all wired. This is not to discount issues as they come up. For instance if one person says you're a horse's backside, then you can discount their opinion. If lot's of folks think you're a horse's backside, may be time to get a saddle. Can apply that to guns as well.

I bought two new smiths.

A M&P 340 and a M&P 327 R8. I love the M&P 340. The M&P 327 I'm a little worried about. Even with the 5 inch barrel I can shot only a little better than the snub M&P 340.

I suppose a positive experience with any gun post 2001 and the IL, whether purchased new or pre-owned, would suffice.

I just recently had purchased an "almost new" M&P 45 which just made me giddy with excitement. I was hitting some very small targets at 10 to 15 yards with amazing grouping which I could never do with my other handgun (KelTec PF9). And the feel was so sweet and extremely manageable recoil. I love it. I want to go shoot it again. (oh and no FTF or FTE's at all, even with reloads).

I bought a used 21-4, Thunder Ranch model in 44 Special, that I really like. The finish on it is as good or better than any of my older guns. The MIM and lock were never an issue. I didn't like the thin stocks on it, so I replaced them with a cheap set of Hogues. One of my favorite guns now.

Stainz this thread is a great idea, I personaly get tired of all the negative @it on the forum, it just bums me out, I feel like telling them to sell their smiths and go @ch somewhere else. I just want to thank you, this is a nice change.

I purchased three S & W's in the past 10 months. The first was a model 15, 22 cal rifle. I also bought 10, 25 round magazines to go with it. I load them while I watch TV and don't have to load anything at the range. Its my favorite 22 rifle and I have a lot of them. I have a red dot scope on it and it blows the centers out of targets at 50 yards. The second was a 380 Bodyguard. Its just ok. It did go back once. Not extremely accurite but it is small. In 380 cal I like my Walther PPK. I have had that for over 20 years, accurite and easy to carry. The last S & W that my wife bought me for Christmas was a 22 M & P. Very nice gun. I got extra magazines for that too.

My 642-1 has been an almost constant companion for about four years.

Other than the wear one would expect from a lot of pocket carry, no issues in over 1k rounds, with at least a couple of hundred +P. It was a nicely put together and well finished little gun when I got it.

I did put some Eagle Secret Service rosewood grips on her, because I like wood and they are less "sticky" coming out of a pocket.

I have always been partial to automatic pistols but have recently picked up three J Frame revolvers. They are fun to shoot but a bit of work to clean up after, especially that round thing in the middle with all the holes in it ..

I bought a 627-5 that is first rate. I love the interchangeable front sight feature. I replaced the red ramp with an SDM gold dot front sight. It was easy. Love the gun! No quality issues.

A few weeks ago I bought a new 43C. I'm very suspicious of new S&W revolvers and haven't bought one in quite a few years, preferring instead to buy used older models. I was able to inspect the 43C before I bought it. The finish on the cylinder is uneven, but everything else looked very good. Performance at the range is just about perfect and I'm very impressed by it.

We revolver experts call that the "gyrating discoid bullet holder thingamabob".

Some confuse it with "magazine" and "clip". Do not let this happen to you or people will yell at you over the internet.

I sold my Model 28-2 and replaced it with a Model 49 Bodyguard for CCW. I added a T-Grip, which was nice, and replaced it with Eagle Secret Service grips, which are nicer! A Mika pocket holster has rounded out why I need to carry it every day, which I now do. The finish probably won't hold up to this summer, so I may send it out and have it Metalife coated when they bluing comes off. Right now the only finish wear is on the cylinder, presumably from sliding around in a desk drawer or glove compartment.

Mod. 36-10 classic. Wife bought it for me for Christmas and it's a pretty little gun and great accuracy. I love a heavy snub, bluing and workmanship are first rate. I replaced the factory wood w/Altimont rosewood boot grips with smith medallions just lovely.

Bought a new 442 for my wife who has been coveting my 340PD but doesn't shoot magnums. We both love that centenial (40) design. We find we are more likely to carry the gun if it is light weight in purse or pocket.

I bought a 442-1 a little over a year ago and have put close to 1500 handloads and maybe 100 store bought ammo through it. It has served me very well and I couldn't be happier with the fit and finish. I would highly recommend one. Mine does not have the IL and you don't even know you've got it on your hip or pocket. I've seen some real nice photos on this forum of new model 21's and have been thinking on getting one of those. I just can't bring myself to buy the Thunder Ranch because of the ugly gold emblem on the side. Does anyone know if that can come off? How is it on there?

Lenny, M21's were made without the emblem on the side.

Yes, yes you are.

Purchased as new in box the past three years:

5906 TSW dated 2005 used for demonstration purposes in CCW class. Fingered a lot but never fired until I bought it.

M&P 9C - My wife Luscious' daily carry and one sweet piece.

M36 Chief's Special 3" Classic in nickel - the perfect ankle gun.

M64 Brinks Special order Snubby "Trifecta" gun (IL, MIM 2-piece barrel) with which I trust my life as a daily carry. New Old Stock made in 2007 and found in a warehouse as an overrun from Brinks last revolver order.

These firearms are taken to the range at least monthly and a minimum of 100 rounds put through them each time.

Not.

One.

Hiccup.

I'm with you guys.... Love my old guns... Love my new!! As a long term collector spanning more decades than I want to remember I can say there is absolutely no contest, from my experience, with the old customer service and the new!

I've purchased a 629, a 657, a 625, a 500 and I'm currently in the market for a 627. I had a chance to test the S&W warranty on two occasions lately.... it was absolutely outstanding.. The customer service was thoughtful and knowledgeable, the workmanship outstanding, and the turn-around extremely rapid.(would have been less than the 14 days in one case if Fed EX hadn't been affected by some really rank weather).

When asked about new S&W guns I tell people they can buy with confidence. When I responded to a few having rants with my offer to buy their "problem gun" I've had no takers, or curiously, offers to sell... Kinda tells me the whole story with some of them...

I'd like to see the administrators of this site establish a "Rant/Complaint" section where people can go to sound off about whatever. The rest of the membership wouldn't have to wade through the small repetitious choir of complainers. It could also provide Mods the flexibility to re-direct or delete rant posts that contaminate unrelated threads... and give legitimate issues a place to be voiced and aired...

Just sayin'

In the last 4 years I have bought all factory new 2 Model 642's, 1 Model 325PD, 1 Model 21-4 Classic, 1 Model 22-4 Classic, and 1 Model 14-8 Classic. All have been very good guns with the Model 14-8 being the most accurate handgun I've owned in 39 years. All these guns were IL and MIM equipped and trouble free. I like both old and new guns after all without new guns there wouldnt be any old guns. This last Tuesday I put a new Model 17 Classic on layaway for my birthday but I think I'm going to have to pick it up before 8 weeks.

Knowing what the Boss thinks about IL threads, little chance of that happening.

OK, so I found a 2.5" 19-3 a couple months ago that "may" have been NIB. Looked it to me, no turn line, not a scratch on it. It was a good deal, not a great deal, and I passed on it because I wouldn't have shot it. I can't drop $600 on a gun and never use it. It's just not me. Fast forward to last week and I happened upon a 2.5" 19-6. It has some "character", it's been shot, still locks up tight, no P&R of course but more my speed. I don't have to be the one to put the first mark on it. Someone took care of that for me. I'll try to get a pic of it. Anyway, that's my latest and I'm in love with it. I've put about 300 Special rounds through it and a handful of 158gr Magnums. This is one that makes me look like a better shooter than I really am.

The newest one I can think of is a 340PD. Haven't had a lick of trouble with it, but it does kick! (I suppose I could complain about that. )

Yes, it has the dreaded IL, but it has not self-activated, and I have been too lazy to deactivate it. Sure, I would prefer the gun didn't have it, but obviously I would rather have the gun with IL than do without. I am not unduly worried. Don't even recall where the key is.

Latest NIB ones were a 21-4 and a 22-4. Bought last year. Both have been flawless in shooting and looks. I'll keep buying the new ones that I like. Smith revolvers ARE the best out there.

I have both a 686P and a 627 Pro of fairly recent manufacture. The IL has been removed on both and replaced with Bullseye Smiths plug solely for aesthetic reasons. Both function flawlessly and are as accurate or more so than the older Smiths I have owned. Triggers on both have less tweaking than the old guns. The factory grips suck but are easily changed.

I just bought a brand new 6 1/2" 500 magnum and I love it! I looked it over pretty good before the final sale and I see nothing wrong, a nice finish, and it fires very smoothly. No complaints here!

Daaaamn, great thread!! Who'd have thought there were so many guns sold by S&W and so many happy customers!!!

I don't think I can list evrything I bought in the last 2 years, but I'll try a few.. I won't include all the used one either....unless IL's..

4- M&P's 9c,40c, 40fs, 45fs, 3 M&P AR's 15-ORC, 15-22, 15-22 camo, PC 945-1, PC 945, PC 500 Bone Collector, M500-4", 325 Thunder Ranch, BG380, 686-6" custom built, Lew Horton 686-3" plus, 2 m10-14's, 386NG, 637, 638Pro, 60Pro, 640, 2-1911es's, 1911pd, 1911-5"pd, 1911-5" E, Lew Horton 1911-3" Pro E, .... my head is beginning to hurt... I guess you can say I'm just trying to see what I like, having getting into the gun game late in life, you could say I'm also making up for all those years I missed... is there a Guns Anonymous Program around...

edit.... Oh ya, I almost forgot.. I love em all!!! I don't shoot them all, shoot some alot, but I sure do like to open the vault and gaaaaze... dream of a time when I can just play like a kid on the last day of school.. does anyone remember what it felt like when we were kids, on the way home on that warm summer day knowing that we had the whole summer ahead to play in the woods and fields.. baseball at the park, hide and seek at night, catchiing lightning bugs and nightcrawlers.... that's how I feel about my guns now!!

I bought one in the last couple of months, it's a S&W M&P45, I'm not sure why I finally bought a bottom feeder, I just got that wild hair. So far it working very well and feeding every hand load I can throw at it flawlessly.

I bought a 637 last year for my wife to replace her 36 3" for carry. Had some trigger work done to lessen double action trigger pull. Light, accurate and dependable though a little snappy with +P rounds. If this revolver wasn't everything it is supposed to be, I would never trust her life to it. What does that tell you?

i`m trying to justify the purchase of a M640 Pro, those melted nite sights are calling my name.

I don't know about the Guns Anonymous Program but you may need one!

And yes, I remember that feeling well. Looking back, there weren't nearly enough years like that.

I'm really glad to see this post as well! I have been wanting a 625 for a while now and haven't found anything local at a decent price and been considering new.

M&p 40c two years ago and a 442-2 no IL last year. Both have been flawless so far.I'd say 1500 rounds through the M&P and maybe a thousand through the 442.No complaints so far.
