Holster for a 686
I am looking for an Accumold holster for a 2 1/2" 686. Does anyone know what size would fit? I see the size 3 fits a 2 1/2" model 66 but does not say it fits a 686. Any help on this?

The 66 is a K frame and is smaller in the frame. The grips are the same. The 686 is a larger frame and won't fit in a tight or molded 66 holster. The 686 is the same size frame as a Python. Being a snubbie it might be harder yet to find one.

They also list the size 3 for the Python.

I don't have it here right now but it would be whatever size their chart suggests.

They don't list one to fit. That is why I asked. I wrote to them and this is what I got.>>>
Dear Sir,
Unfortunately, we do not have any holsters in either our Bianchi or Safariland lines that will accommodate the S&W 686 2.5" gun.
Sincerely,
Lisa Silva

Your best bet for a holster for a 2.5 686 is going to be a custom maker. Look at Simply Rugged, and Lobo leather. Both quality products!

I ordered one of the "inexpensive" Tagau ones from "the bay". It's not great leather but the gun rides correctly.
I found that most of the production 686 holsters for my 2 1/2" had the gun riding too high and the short barrel would let the gun "flip over" with no long barrel to help hold it upright.
The Tagau has the gun riding a tad lower and so has more support from my belt.
Hope this helps...
Joe

FWIW, I bought a new 686 4" back in the 80's and I ordered a Bianchi 5bhl holster which was marked for a k frame. It was pretty snug at first but broke in beautifully.

I also bought a Tagua holster. Mine is a TB paddle holster for my 686 2 1/2". I think it is a very good holster, with good fit. It is made for the gun to ride straight up so I can also use as crossdraw. I ordered direct by calling their toll free #. I also bought one for a 4" N frame. I asked if they would discount for buying two holsters, and got both shipped for $100, and arrived in 3 days.

You may also want to look at the Galco Combat Master OWB holster. I have one for my 686P 2/12" and love it.

I ordered a pancake from simply rugged, less than 3 weeks from time I ordered to my door, and its perfect. I have several rigs from him and I wouldn't hesitate to use them when I need more

I recently ordered (Jan) an OWB holster, PMK Model, from Milt Sparks for my 3" 686 Plus. I should have it in June. Long wait, but quality is bar none.

I have a Simply Rugged -- it's a nice holster. Very durable, leather, pancake style can be worn inside waistband or on belt.
