Default 629 Mountain Gun: A "K" frame in disguise?

History. I was raised on a 29-2 4" square butt, with full thick barrel. I thought it was very nice.

30 plus years later, surprise, surprise. I got a .45 Colt Mountain gun with round butt and tapered barrel in hand. Wow! Solid heft of an N frame, yet light weight. Instant balance for shoot ability. Double action smoothness that would make one pee their pants.

If I closed my eyes, I think I have the fast cylinder feel of the K frame. Could I be dreaming, or is this the ultimate carry gun? Has anyone noticed the same? Could it be the lighter .45 Colt cylinder?

The 625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt is one sweet revolver, and is one of my favorite S&Ws. Here's mine wearing Ahrends smooth tactical conversion grips...

I've always considered the 625-6 Mountain Gun ideal as a trail revolver. Light enough, powerful enough and "just right" in almost all respects. Mine has been customized to my tastes with a red ramp front sight, old-style cylinder release, Ahrends round-to-square conversion retro classic stocks, and an action job.

The Mountain Guns are nice. I foolishly sold my 45 Colt MG years ago. They make a lot of sense.
