Most accurate 38 and 357 ammo for 686?
If you were going to a shoot, for example a Turkey shoot using a 686 7 shot new model, what ammo have you used that for you was the most accurate?
Not interested in stopping power etc, just accuracy.
38?
357?
Thanks!

I'd load my own. 173 grain Keith's, pushed to about 900 or 1000 fps, but no more than that.
For retail ammunition, I have no idea, but certainly some excellent quality target loads.
Scattered here and there across this country are commercial reloading operations, some produce very large quantities of 158 grain SWC or 148 grain WC 38 Special target loads. There are ranges that buy good quality reloads like these in 6 figure quantities. Or more than that. IMO many of these reloads are better quality target ammunition than you can get in any factory box of the same sort of bullet.

My 686-0 8-3/8" loves a 148g DEWC over 2.7g Bullseye in a .38 Special case. It's more accurate than I can hold, but on a good day I can cover a cylinder full with a business card at 25 yards.

For grab and go cheap ammo I've never had too many issues with the Winchester white box that you can pick up cheap at Wal-Mart. I grab the .38 Spcls for around $14 a box 130 gr. FMJ. I too have a 7 shot 686 that seems to like them. For most .357 Mag ammo, don't expect to go cheap.

stashu, the true answer to your question is that no one can give you the slightest clue as to what ammo will be most accurate in your gun. Each and every gun is unique, and if mine and your shoot identically well with the same ammo it is pure coincidence
Your 686 should shoot most loads pretty well. Try a few and see which it likes best. Something the size of a turkey will be easily killed by an accurate shot with any .357 load -- just be sure you know where to aim.

DEWC = Double Ended Wad Cutter.
You generally have to make it yourself but you can get mid-range wadcutter from just about any fully stocked gun store or internet ammo supplier.
I use a very similar hand load for accuracy in a Model 14, 586, and 52. Using a rest all the bullets will go through the same ragged hole, when I pick the gun up, then not so much.
