Well, I got it last Friday and it is pretty much as described. It appeared unfired (except at the factory) and not a mark on it. It is a good shooter but needed some trigger lightening and a lower rear sight blade. It has both now. I think it is a real keeper. The price I paid was high, but I am already starting to forget how much it was.

I considered buying a 617 but didn't want a lock or full underlug.
I found a nice model 17 instead which has neither of the above.
Also paid under $500, so about $200 less than a 617

I like the way yours looks without the IL.

You didn't pay too much, you just bought 1 year early so you could shoot it sooner. I did the same thing. Don't look back, be happy. It is better to think you paid too much, than regret not buying the revolver in question.

Very interesting finish almost looks like satin nickel, Is that the aluminum cylinder version ?

Also how do you know you paid too much?
New ones are not cheap to begin with and Pre lock guns have been steadily going up.

My 4 inch no dash 617 out shoots my 6 inch no dash 617 in terms of accuracy which was a real surprise to me.

The -2 had a frosted finish. The cylinder is stainless steel.
I figure I paid a $250 premium for this gun, verses a new 617-6. on Gunbroker.

I predict that it won't be long after any first 617 purchase that the buyer's greatest remorse is, "Why did I wait so long to get one?". It'll come to you one day while you are plinking away with el-cheapo .22's. Congratulations!

I waited a long time to find a "deal" on a 617. I never really did and just ended up buying a nice one the popped up locally. No regrets and I wish I had found / gotten one sooner. I was hoping for a 4" but ended up with a 6" and absolutely love it. I don't think they will go down in value so the sooner you get one the sooner you can enjoy it regardless of price.

A dab of nail polish for the sight, Hogue wood grips and a lighter rebound spring round out the only changes. It LOVES ammo.....

I lightened the mainspring as much as I could without getting misfires, then installed a 13 lb Wolff rebound spring. It feels good, but I have a 12 lb rebound spring on order. I hope to eventually duplicate the feel of my (similar vintage) 686, and it's close now but not quite there yet.
Cal50, what weight rebound spring did you use?

BTW, here's how it looks now with the old-style thumbpiece and lower rear sight blade.

I used the 13Lb. spring and polished the rebound block and mating surface and put a dab of Mobil-1 oil on the surfaces.

A year or so from now, you'll hear folks moaning over the current prices of these, and congratulate yourself for getting a deal.

I could make a tidy turnaround on my 6" no dash... but I'd be nuts to let it go.

I took it to the range today to sight it in. I just love this gun, and it won't need any further trigger work, either. I can hit tin cans with it shooting double action, single action, one handed, upside down (OK, just kidding about the last one).
Funny, but I can't seem to remember how much I paid for it. I hope that I got a good deal!
