Do Scandium alloy frames stretch?
Generally speaking, if you are going to shoot a lot, or hot loads you would want to steer towards a 627. I have a few friends who have worn out or stretched a 327 or the TRR-8 version because of the allow frame.
I read this on another post. Can this happen?

The reason I'm asking is that I just bought the M&P 327 R8 for Steel Challenge. I've been using my 627 PC that has a steel frame. Just curious to find out if the scandium frame on the 327 will "stretch" as someone posted on a different post! Any comments are welcome. Thanks Mac

I'd say no.... stretching to various degrees happens any time there is a force, and thus a stress on a material, however if the stress is under the elastic limit it springs back to its original size. Growing implies the metal has experienced stress that has plastically deformed it, when that happens properties change, among other things. I doubt any engineer would design ANY gun to operate in the plastic regions, otherwise it would be a time bomb.
Edited for grammar

The problem with aluminum, unlike steel, is there really is no elastic limit. Light to moderate stress should be no problem. The frame may stretch, but the rate of stretch will be too low to notice for a long time. Heavy loads may be a different matter. I could easily be wrong, but my experience with aluminum in aircraft leads me to believe that a heavily loaded aluminum frame gun will slowly stretch, eventually making it unusable. Even heavily loaded that usability limit may be high enough that for all but a handful of us, it doesn’t matter, but to be on the safe side, I don’t load my Scandium guns heavily and shoot duplicate steel frame guns for practice.

Thanks for the info.
I'm shooting light 38's 125gn with just under 4gn Trailboss.
Just using it for Steel Challenge; so I guess it won't be a problem.

It won't. I have a Scandium 327 that I have been shooting .32 H%R Mag factory loads in for 10 years a few boxes a year and it is still tight as new.
