Default Peruvian Police Model 37 Airweight

Picked out this little gem today at the local show. Almost didn't give it a second look but the symbol on the sideplate caught my eye. From the standard catalog, which I was fortunate to have downloaded on my phone, I noticed that there were only 250 of these made back in 1984. So I figured it was worth adding to the collection. I wonder if these are very common here in the states and of the ones that are here, how many might have import markings on them? This one looks very clean and I figured I would post about it since I searched the forum and couldn't find any info about them. Enjoy.

Default Peruvian Police

I have same crest on a Model 10 snub, I believe mine is from same era,
one buddy of mine had it for sale a t a local show, I fondled it , as it was
NIB , never noticed the crest !
Then about a year later traded another gun for it from another friend from same circle, so its been around in Minneapolis here a bit !
I wonder if from same time frame?

I believe they were from the same time. From Jim's info that he sent me it looks like the model 10 was more for the Male agents and the 37's were designed more for the female agents. Kind of an interesting variation that isn't seen often.

Correct. The ones that actually went out of the country, despite being American made, are ineligible for reimportation (do not meet the criteria due to size, no adjustable sights, et cetera).

I completely missed this old post. Have one, too. ANIB since 1988. I thought it was special when I originally found it and kept that belief all along as I have very seldom seen another.

By chance model3sw, do you have some pictures you could post of it?

I'd enjoy seeing the crest/symbol they were talking about, as I can not see the original pictures that they posted.

Thanks!

Hello Guys, This is off the top of my head, but IIRC, S&W released approximately 250 of the Peruvian police mk'd M-37's, along with a much greater amount of similarly mk'd M-10's. Both were blue, .38 Spl., 2" bbl., rd butt, w/ service style 'PC' grips. Both had the Peruvian national crest on the right side-plate. Again, IIRC, they were released @ 1984 or so, & both models exhibited excellent workmanship & finish. Me, like a total moron, I sold off my M-10 Peru to fund a Colt 9mm CAR, & I lament that decision to this day. If someone would like additional data on these Peruvian contract models, just let me know & I'll try to dig out my S&W collector notebook that includes these models. Take care Folks,

Best, dpast32

Mine, which I have since sold had the same symbol. It's serial number was ACE7160. Based on Jim's example above and the one posted here by Bobcat you might assume that around 1000 were made if all the serial numbers were sequential.
