Default new 629-3

Hello all... I am about to purchase a 629-3, 6"... it will be my first .44 magnum handgun so I am itching to pick it up. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me about the time she was created... BFA916*. It also has a "V" stamp on the cylinder? Have not seen that before... can someone clue me in to what it means? My Model 27 has an "N" stamp on it which I believe stands for its nickel finish but a "V" has me perplexed? I will post pics when I pick it up in a week or so.

Anyone have a little time for a fellow S&W enthusiast? Still curious...

My catalogue says 1992 for the BFA. not sure what the "v" represents.
