need some help from the all knowing folks here in s/w land.
wife made a trip to gandermtn for targets today and noticed a s/w ss revolver in the case and is trying her darnest to tell me about it, but they where busy and she forgot to ask for a model number so i could possibly find one in the for sale area.
she said it was a five shoot with a rubber grip with 3 finger grooves and about 2-2 1/2" barrel. small light weight she said for a stainless revolver.
is there some place i can veiw different s/w models to try to indentify the model? either here or online someplace?
i am not as familiar with the revolvers as i am the autos and as luck would have it she has grown very fond of s/w revolvers.

It sounds like she saw one of several variations of a J-frame.

If it was 5 shot it was a J Frame, possibly a model 60, but there are a half dozen variations. With hammer, without hammer, shrouded hammer. Go to S&W website and look them over.

been to s/w website and she is 99% sure that it is a model 60.
now i know what to look for.
does not seem to be a lot of them on market at this time and most suppliers list as out of stock.
oh well...the adventure begins...

To answer the OP's question:

Open the cylinder, on the frame in the recess for the yoke under the barrel, there will be two items stamped on the frame, one is the serial number (post say, 1950) and model number (post 1957)

It will be stamped MOD 35, or MOD 35-1 or something like that.

Torked, what you described sounds like the model 60. Go to the smith and wesson web site and look at J frame revolvers and have your grandmother point out the gun.
