Hey guys, new to the forum. I picked up a new to me smith at a local gun show. 629-2 with the 8 inch barrel. I really like the feel of it and it shoots very nice. I currently own a small handful of smith revolvers and this one was kind of an impulse buy. I know there are a bunch of versions of the 629, what can you tell me about the 629-2? Thank you.
Dash numbers refer to engineering changes, most of which are not visible or have an effect on basic function. The -2 change involves several minor internal changes to the lockwork. Anything you need to know about the specific model, barrel length, barrel contour, stocks, etc you can observe yourself.
If my memory is correct in 1988 the yoke received special heat treatment to help prevent premature end shake(29-3E,629-2) and the radius stud package started in1989(29-4,629-2E) basically all this means is that the guns will hold up better to a steady diet of full house magnum loads , Congrats on your -2, they are sweet hearts
