Default Mdl 686-6 Plus Photos Just for Fun

Photos of my Mdl 686-5 Plus [Correction - as noted below, this is a 686-6] 3 inch barrel - just for fun.
  • The thumbpiece has been replaced with an old-style version.
  • It may be hard to notice, but there is a non-standard screw at the front of the rear sight leaf. This screw was trimmed to the precise depth of the top strap to stop the deposits of powder residue accumulating on the sides of the cylinder.
  • This revolver has "the Plug" installed in place of the internal lock.

This is a great revolver for self-defense and just to shoot.

Post pictures of your Mdl 686 if you've got them!

I thought the -5 was prelock and the -6 added the lock.

Me too. All the -5's I've seen have the frame mounted firing pin, mim trigger (neither of which I have a problem with), but no lock.

My 686-4 is much more accurate than I am. Fun for sure!

Like others have mentioned. Your 686 is likely a -6 due to the internal lock.

I'm not sure smith made any -5+ models with a 3" barrel. I've been wrong before, but it's exceptionally rare

You guys are right - a careful look revealed it is a 686-6. I misread the stamped numbers. Correction noted in the original post. Thanks!
