Default 460XVR Smith

OK this is like a drunk walking into a bar saying do I need a drink?

I was hot for a 500 S&W but didnt act on it to this point
Now I have found a nice 460XVR with box and paperwork
The gun has an extra port in the box and I dont know why.
I like this because I can shoot 460 454 and 45LC

Can those who have practical knowledge of these give their opinion of these? Is it worth having? What is a fair deal in the box? Do you like yours?

Thanks Hank

I'm not sure on the difference in the ports, but the useability and shoot-ability of the 460 is many times greater than the 500 in my opinion. I have shot all calibers in the 460, and even with the 460 it isn't uncomfortable to shoot. The 500 is.

With out a doubt, the 460 Mag is a great gun. Rather large but a great gun. I owned 5 of them in the past, but sold them all, and stuck with the 500 Mag. Never really got into shooting 45 Colts or 454 Casull's out of my S&W 460 Mag. Had to much fun shooting the 460 Mags. Also killed a few deer out to about 150 yards with mine.

Thanks for the info.
I see lots of 500s used but few 460s I am not sure what that tells me

If a guy could buy one for 800.00 plus 6% TX out the door does that sound like a good deal?

One one hand I say what do I need this for?
but on the other "How cool is this!"

I think that tells you that people with the 460 keep them, I think $800 is not bad, what barrel length is it?

Then you might be thinkin' wrong. My LGS claims they sell twice as many new .460s as they do new .500s. They also claim they get twice as many .500 trade ins as .460 trade ins. May be why you see so many used .500s.

$800 is a good price for a slightly used X-Frame.

That makes me feel good because the 460 is sitting on my desk.I cant wait to shoot it
I am glad I passed on the 500s (no disrespect to the 500 owners) I think this will be a better choice for me.
It looks like Hornady has some reasonable priced loaded ammo

Congratulations on yours. Mine will not be going anywhere soon.

With a 3X12 Burris scope ,rested , I can shoot a 3 inch group at 100 yards.

The XVR has gain-twist rifling and is made for the Hornady 200 grain FTX bullet.
Launching it at about 2200 f.p.s.

Regards
Allen Frame
