I still need to post a pic, but I just fitted some Hogue Bantam wood grips to my model 60. It is almost impossible to describe how much better it feels in my hand than with the teeny-tiny factory grips. Just amazing. I have yet to fire it with the new wood, but can only imagine how much better I'll shoot with that sizing.

Here are some of my favorite J-frames - in the group photo, from Left to Right: Model 38 no dash; Model 60-7; Model 432-PD; Model 642-1. Except for the Model 432 (.32 H&R Magnum) all of the others are chambered in .38 Special. The Model 642-1 has a cylinder from a Model 442 that has been cut for moon clips - purchased from a forum member. The other photo shows the Model 60-7 that I added a hammer from a Model 38 parts kit purchased from another forum member, as well as my Model 38 no dash that has a nickeled cylinder from the same Model 38 parts kit.
Regards,
Dave

1994 Model 442 (no dash) with Pachmayr grip trimmed for use with a speedloader and Laserlyte laser sight. I've done a trigger job with an 11 pound rebound spring and 8 pound main spring. The innards have been smoothed with an extra fine Arkansas oil stone. Never had a problem with light primer strikes or trigger reset.
Shown with a custom made pocket holster, belt holster, wet molded ammo pouch with 2 five shot quick strips and an HKS 5 shot speedloader.

Love my snubby. The reason I went with an internal hammer, was that I found while researching my options for a concealed carry gun that prosecutors claimed that a revolver with an external hammer can be cocked for every shot, showing premeditation and a “hair” trigger. Also, there’s no hammer spur to snag while drawing from concealment. I’ve also read of people being cited for criminal indifference for loading their legally carried concealed firearms with hardball ammo. The reason given was because if it had to be used in a self defense situation the bullet can pass through the criminal and strike an innocent bystander.

That's something new, I've never even heard of that. The US Military often issued 130-grain FMJ ammo, so it's not exactly unprecedented. Is this a West Virginia thing?

Don,
More valuable and rarer than the J frame which wasn't introduced until Oct. 1960 as the Model 35-1 and Kit Gun as 34-1. The I Models of 1953 New I frame .32s & .38 S&Ws became J frames with a -1 in 1961.
This is the most confusing issue of the 1950s I frames. You have a Model of 1953 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I frame. Yes, it has the egg shaped trigger guard and 1/8" longer grip frame (takes J size grips), but still has the I size short window main frame w/short cylinder.
This is a comparison of a 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I-Frame Model of 1953 (bottom), and a modern "J-Frame" Model 63 Kit Gun (top). Note the differences in frame length in front of the trigger guard and the cylinder length.
This shows the common main frame size of a pre-war 'original' I-Frame 22/32 Kit Gun (top)and a 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I-Frame Model of 1953 (bottom). Same size main frame window and cylinder.

I'm don't remember what state it was in, I ran across it while researching my concealed carry options.

...The difference is very subtle and difficult to see unless you have one to compare with the other. Your pictures provide the information perfectly. I'll be on the lookout from now-on.

649-1
Picked up this circa '88 dash one as a police trade in from one of the Carolinas (can't remember which dept.) from a dealer that had over a dozen of them, he let me go through the lot and I chose this one, cost me a hundred thirty bucks in '94.....cleaned up the dings, gave it a polish, put on some rubber boot grips and it resided on my ankle or in my pocket for the next fifteen years....I changed the latch to the newer style years ago, just like the way it looks.....still love shooting it, love it so much I bought a new dash two shortly after I bought this, and have never bothered to shoot it....grips were a recent change since it's now retired from everyday carry....

Only a couple I carry the 642 with CT grips and the M&P 340 with CT grips. The rest just kind of lay around in the box waiting to be taken out.
37-2, 640 Big Dot, 642 Gemini Customs, 642 Power Port night sight, 940
Got more but I reached my 5 upload files.

Here is my model 37-2 and my Model 38. Thanks for starting this thread. There are some great looking J frames here.
I just got the model 38. The serial number is 432JXX and it has the pinned barrel. Can someone help me with a date of manufacture?

Just picked up this engraved 442 yesterday. Got to shoot it today - super accurate!
(Engraved for the lady - cuz THIS lady refuses to put pink anywhere on a gun!!!!)

642-2 with jay scott walnut gunfighters.
Shooting it with the larger grips is night and day better than the factory rubber boots.

My latest GB find. 640-1 with Forged Parts and no lock. Pretty much unfired. I just added the XS front sight.

My two... A 36 no dash dated to 1968, and a 637-2 I purchased new in 2007. Both wearing Ahrends Cocobolo "tactical" grips.
I shortened and recontoured the hammer spur on the 637. Enough purchase for thumb cocking if desired, greatly reduced snagging potential from the original squared shape.

Just got this one buttoned back up yesterday after a quick polish job (as in all day Sunday and Monday - can't say I didn't labor on the day off). This is my daily carry. Most of the time holstered in a bag, but if I need to leave it, I can just tuck it into my waistband with the Barami Hip Grip. Holster is an older Brauer Bros.
