Default Everybody has one, why not show them?...J-Frames

I looked and couldn't really find a great picture thread on J-frame grips & holsters. So I thought I would try and start one and while most of their time is spent in hiding under shirts, in boots, pockets, waistbands, in consoles, or anywhere else one can imagine I feel it is time to bring them out.

I am talking about the overworked under appreciated J-frames!
I was thinking we could get a J-frame thread going on here to show off our undersized friends & their accessories.

I have recently ordered my own s&w 640-1 and have been all over the web looking at grips and leather. Hoping maybe I could get some J-Frame veterans advice, pictures of grip and holster options with suggestions on the ups and down of their setup.

I will post pictures of my own as soon as I get it.

Default J frames

OK......my no-dash S&W Model 60. Carried in an Alessi shoulder holster rig. Also have a Model 36 purchased in 1975. Love these little revolvers.

A pair of 360PD's.

Mostly pocket and ankle carry for these two. Sometimes I put a cord on one and wear it around my neck when I'm wearing shorts wth Tee shirt and just need to run feed or get something out of shed, etc.

No dash square butt model 60 manufactured in 1984 and a 642-1 "post lock" manufactured in 2012...

Decisions... what grip is best for each of my rather eclectic mix of J-frames? After all, a 3" & 5" 63 (.22LR) are so different... then there is the 4" 651 (.22WMR). How should my 632 Pro, with those hot .327 Fed Magnums, be gripped? Then there is the 3" 60 Pro. All so different - I think I matched the proper grip to each one... what do you think? Not shown is my mundane carry-worn 642 with it's OEM rubber boots - sufficient sums it up.

I went to a lot of effort to match the style, size, shape, and wood of my grips to the individual J-frames needs. Okay, I'll fess up - I lied - I liked the 60 Pro's wood grips so much I bought extra grips - fitted them everywhere. Two important rationales for their use: 1. I like the look and feel - even under recoil. 2. They are <$43 + s/h from S&W Accessories.

Wink EDC and twice on Sunday, 37

I love my little 37. It's a 1968 model and a little rough around the edges but is very good mechanically. I am finally getting better with it. That Bianchi is a very comfortable holster and is very easy to draw from.
Peace,
Gordon

Here's a pic of my 340 no lock and my former 66 snub (sold to a forum member...)

The 340 has proven to be one of my all-time favorites for carry.

No plinkers here, no target guns or collectors items, never have dozed peacefully inside a safe. These are for the time when wolves scream, horns blare and fear yells in you ear "Run, Run!!!"

Because your original premiss is incorrect. Not everyone has one. Haven't owned a J-frame in something like 20 years. After chronographing what ammo actually does out of a 1-7/8" barrel, then watching both cops and civilians trying to qualify with J-frames...and fail when shooting double action...I've decided they just aren't worth all the hoop-la.

As with everything in this life, YMMV!

Dave.....I suppose you are one of those that carries nothing less than a caliber and frame in the howitzer family?

The snub-nose is a short-range belly-gun....plain and simple, I think we all know that. Never in my wildest dreams would I expect a 2-inch barrel to be a tack-driver at 50-yards. Most people that I know who carry a Smith for SD carry a J-Frame of some kind.

There's on of those in every crowd. If a person has no interest in J-Frames why look at the thread? Why comment?

I've got a couple Airweights around, but they hide out so well, I can't find them. Joe

Double Trouble...

A pair of 640-1 Centennial Magnums in one of Lefty's "New York Reload" rigs....

These guns are the pinnacle of Self Defense J-Frames.

Here's another favorite, a 1967 Model 60, also in one of Lefty's pocket holsters....

As with everything in this life, YMMV!

Dave, you speak the truth and I cannot fault you for that!

The J frames can be a challenge to shoot well and they only carry five rounds of ammo which leans towards the lower end of the generally accepted self-defense carry calibers (at least for me). Some like them because of they are associated with the old-school "detective" nostalgia, and others like their small size and ease of carry.

I occasionally carry one because I trust the action/caliber over some of the pocket 380 autos out there. Mine see most of their carry in and around the house. Truth be told, I usually carry a handgun manufacturered by that "four letter" gun maker (if I said GLOCK those guys sitting in their S&W robes surrounded by blue boxes would spit out a mouthful of coffee) and in a caliber starting in the number 4.

Now back to the pictures of cool little snubbies...

Edmo

My SW 60 inherited from my Dad who past 4 years ago today.

Late '68 model if I recall. Was always either on him or in the nightstand.

I still need to post a pic, but I just fitted some Hogue Bantam wood grips to my model 60. It is almost impossible to describe how much better it feels in my hand than with the teeny-tiny factory grips. Just amazing. I have yet to fire it with the new wood, but can only imagine how much better I'll shoot with that sizing.

Okay. Here's some. Two 30-1s, a pre 38, and two 38s. Mostly carry the pre 38 in a cross draw cheap nylon ITW I picked up at a gun show for $7...

Yes they do.
They're made of rosewood & have a rose carved in them.
I did it to honor my mother.
Her middle name was Rose.
