New 329
Finally scratched one of the list Friday and shot it today. Started out loading the 329 with lite loads of 4.5 grs. of trail boss and 240 gr. swc's. Nice , thought it would kick more . Then moved up to 8 gr's of unique and 240's . Not bad but I put the rubbers on , figuring I was going to shoot 50 rds. again I might need it . Wow two loads working great . Then 22.5 grs. of Win. 296 and 240's , wow accurate but very stout and only 12 rds. My arthritis said break time , so I ended the session with my 34-1 with a 2'' barrel . The model 329 is a keeper , now what part of the m-29 family do I want next .

I'd love to have a 329. Don't know much about your interests but for my next 29 series I would look for a 29 Classic 5", great target gun and veerry accurate. Bbl length is perfect for many and ideal for riding a 4 wheeler or in a car. I have 4 44s, a 4" 5" 6.5" and a Ruger 4 5/8's in Special. My favorite is the 5" 29.

329??
Glad you like it. Is it a 329PD or a 329NG?

It's a 329PD . I have always had a love for S&W 44's . I will have to update my pics when I get my iPad back. I have four others, a M-29 in10 5/8" & one in6" and two 629's an 8 3/8" & a 4" mountain gun which makes five . A 5" is a thought , hmm , we'll see but I do really like them long barrels .

IMO, somebody buying and shooting a 329pd is experiencing a growing up moment. Why? Because they are buying a weapon that has a specific purpose for which it excels - and there really isn't any competition.
Lots of guys buy handguns that get "carried" to and from the range, and then get left home when they hike. The 329pd goes with you.
I've often wondered what sort of masochistic venture I embarked on in my life shooting thousands of full-tilt 44 magnums through the 329pd. Dried blood on the backstrap, puffy hand. Fighting the urge to flinch. But when I'm wandering around in bitey-scratchy critter country, I know what it can do and I'm comforted having it along.
Interesting series of firearms. Definitely separates the various types of shooters.

You next 44 is an easy choice, a 329 Night Guard! Bought my 329PD 1st and love it, finally got a 329NG and LOVE it.

I believe mine has Ahrends with finger grooves and the rubbers I'm not sure but I think they are Michael of Oregon with a S&W emblem molded on each side . I couldn't find anything on a maker .

So I'm assuming that the new rubber grips cover the backstrap?
The used to ship a pair of wood and a pair of rubber - neither covered the backstrap which made them brutal.

There's a NIB 329PD that's been sitting at a LGS for close to a year. I comes with the wooden & rubber grips, neither cover the backstrip.

The wooden grips on my new 329PD does have the backstrap exposed , but the rubbers are full wrap and fit my hand rather well .
