Default 460 Replacement Barrel

Hello all,

I have had a 460 with a 2 and 3/4 barrel that came in a bear defense kit that was given to me a little over 4 years ago. It was a great gift as I am in alaskabut the problem that I have is that I can not hit a single thing with it.

My buddy has a 500 with a 5 inch barrel and we are both dead accurate but with mine we can't hit a target at 10 yards.

Are there replacement barrels that can be purchased for a gun like mine to put it to a 5" barrel?

Thanks in advance

Kip

There's no reference to any 2-3/4" barrels for a M460 in the SCSW. 3-1/2" appears to be the shortest.

However, a M460 with a 5" barrel is still a standard production offering, so you should be able to get a 5" barrel.

I realize that the bear defense guns were not target revolvers, but I'm surprised to hear of accuracy problems at close distances. Could you tell whether the POI was high, low, left, right? And how far from the bullseye? Were you shooting 460 rounds or the softer .45 Colt that it also chambers?

Just wondering if there is something wrong with the barrel installation that could be corrected with a return trip to the factory.

If you don't like the barrel length regardless of the accuracy question, just ship it back to S&W to be rebarreled. They could tell you what barrel lengths are available and what the cost would be. (My 460 has the barrel that's a little over 8 inches long and has been quite accurate with any ammo I put through it, mostly .45 Colt and .454 Casull.)

Thanks all,

Here is a link to the bear kit that has the 2 3/4 barrel. As for accuracy I really could not tell you where it is hitting as it is all over the place. I have only been shooting the 460 rounds so far.

S&W M460ES 460SW BEAR ARMS KIT

I do like the option of sending back to S&W. I will give them a call.
