Default Modify N-Frame Square Butt to Round Butt K-Frame

Magnaport says they will modify an N-Frame Square Butt to a Round Butt K-Frame grip for $95.

I have small hands. The backstrap of the N-frame square butt doesn't bother me, but the front edge sticks out further as well. I love shooting 44 specials from my Model 29 (not so much 44 mags!), but would also love to have a grip closer in size to the K-frame.

Has anyone had any experience with having this done? If so, would you recommend it or not?

Dimensionally, there isn't that much difference between the K-frame and N-frame. Simply having the gun round-butted might be enough. I had a 657 three inch and with a little stretching I got a K-frame Pachmayr grip to fit. It was my off-duty gun for years!

If you're handy with tools, round-butting a revolver isn't that complicated. I did mine in about a half-hour with a bench grinder and a Dremel.

I think the N Frame round butt is the way to go. I have rather small hands and no trouble managing the N Frame round butt. I have seen some pictures of K grips on N frames and never liked how they appeared to fit at the frontstrap.

I've got a 29-2 that's been converted to N round butt. It handles, shoots, and carries nicely. It's a handful with full power loads, most of my shooting is with reduced loads.

I don't have any pics on this machine, but will post some tomorrow if you like.

This is my 21-4, .44 Spl.

The stocks are Altamonts with a Tyler 3R adapter.
This gives the same 'feel' as my 'K' frame RB.
And I think it just looks right!

I reduced a custom 1917 to K square butt, but there wasn't enough 'meat' in the right places to make a K round butt without welding. I have never tried it on a modern N, but eyeballing it, it would get awefully thin (and possibly weak) in spots.

Does anyone know a good person who does modifications to an N-frame round butt? I don't need it to go to K-frame size...just need less frame in the front of the grip.

I may try the Tyler T-grip first. FWIW, I normally shoot it with 44 special loads. I don't hunt, but I do carry it sometimes...and a two-legged predator can probably be handled better with 44 special. I know I could certainly get a follow-up shot much faster with it!
